getting alittle depressed

17 years ago 0 7 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone. Still have'nt had a cigarette, but I keep thinking about it. I never thought anyone is as addicted as me. I watched my husband die of lung cancer 2 years ago and it still wasnt enough to make me quit. chi

depression and smoking often go together. make no mistake. smoking is a slow suicide. depression and quitting smoking also go together. OK, so we've established that the depression is there either way. why not begin to move past if by dropping the smoking factor. I feel that today is your day. it has your name written all over it. i know because i just wrote it all over my calendar for today "chi. chi. chi. quit smoking today". p.s. have you worked the workbook here yet? work on getting your meter up. mine is a motivator for me. Chi, Don't be depressed!! You are dong the right thing! I won't lie, this is going to be the hardest thing you will ever do- but also the most rewarding. Freedom takes a bit of elbow grease, so dig in your heels and tell your addiction the way it is going to be. For once, YOU are in control- not that disgusting tube-o-chemicals. Get through the day one minute at a time. You can handle that, right? You can go without a cig for a measley 60 seconds right? Hang on tight- each day it will get easier, as you put more distance between yourself and your quit. And remember- cravings will pass by themselves and all that nicotine will be out of your system within 3 or so days- so drink lots of water an tea to help your body flush out the chemicals and speed up your recovery. Cravings won't kill you- smoking will. You choose. We are all here for you- please keep posting, I promise there will be someone here who has had the same experience as you. You can beat this. c'mon Chi!! ;)Text My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 94 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 756 Amount Saved: $332.76 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 5 Mins: 57 Seconds: 53

Chi, I hope you're doing ok. I've taken wellbutrin thoughout my quit and it has helped with depression I've been suffering (and know I would be worse now) since i quit. It might help to see your doctor or some talk therapy. You CAN do this. I also thought I was the biggest nico addict in the world. I had worked my way up to 3 packs a day. After 125 days of not smoking--I am sill alive--more so than ever! Keep up the quit. Your life is worth it. chi - spend as much time as possible on this site - and go back and read old posts - as many as possible anytime you have time. Those who went before you have shared so much - you will find out about coping skills, distrations - how to get through the tough times and you will just be amazed at the information and guidance you will find in those posts. Stay close and stay strong. This is a tough addiction - but it can be done one baby step at a time. Make sure to show your meter, friend... I agree with Healer, chi. I just got through one of my worst cravings EVER (well, mostly through it anyway.... I still haven't had one!) and am starting to feel like I lost something intrinsic. Just stay on this site instead of going for a smoke. Read through all the posts, and see the people who've made it. Help the people who are struggling. It really does help you renew your commitment, even if you do feel lousy about it right now. Good Luck!!!!! -Hillary My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 286 Amount Saved: $54 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 44 Seconds: 6

Chi, We are sorry to hear about your husband and our thoughts are with you. You are doing the right thing so let us help guide you. What are you doing to prepare? Depression can be a symptom of the quit, but make sure that you check with your doctor if it persists. We are here to help, so ask questions and let us assist you :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
