Many moons ago I got into a very bad car accident. Afterward, every time I got onto the interstate I had a panic attack. Only then, at age 20, I did not know what it was. My heart raced and I felt like I could not swallow. I would feel like I was about to pass out. After months of this, I got into the car and made myself drive on the interstate for four hours. I pulled over several times and cried, called a friend who knew what was going on for moral support, etc... but I DID it...and...I lived.
Since quitting I get that same sensation when I am under stress and catch myself REALLY wanting to smoke----when I am really angry or pressed for time. Recognise it for what it is....and it is easier to overcome. The more you face your demons, the easier it becomes. If all else fails, seek some professional help. There is also a sister site to SSC you might want to check into.
