Fear

Jess, You can do this...just take deep breathes, close your eyes, and picture yourself healthy and happy, and free of the addiction. We knew this wouldn't always be easy, not in 1 week or 6 months, but taking it one day at a time and one craving at a time is key. We are all going through the same thing. Trying to carve out our new lives without smoking in them. Make a plan and distract yourself, you can make it through. Fear is a great reason to quit. Fear of getting COPD, fear of emphysemia (sp), fear of dieing a slow death of lung cancer, fear of dragging an oxygen tank around with you, fear of not being around for loved ones. Let's face it, if we weren't afraid, we wouldn't be quitting. You can do it! Stress is piling up. I feel like crap...maybe i quit at the wrong time in my life?! I picked one of the most stressful times to stop smoking and why really?! FEAR! Fear of getting cancer and going out like my dad did. He passed just a few short months ago, and that's right when my desire to quit smoking started...fear's the only reason i am doing this! :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 398 Amount Saved: $115.7 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 20 Mins: 53 Seconds: 28

Hi Jess!! Picking the time to quit is never the wrong time! Do not let your fears paralyze you. I have had 2 family members die of cancer and it was 2 weeks apart they died. Did it scare me? Yes it did! Scared me to the point of being paralyzed. Instead, gather your coping skills, re-read the SSC book, and fight the urge to go back. Look at the progress you have made so far! Do you really want to start over again and face the withdrawals again? Did you know each time you fall off the wagon, you are more likey you are to smoke 1/3 more than previously? This is my 4th and final quit. I used to smoke 5 - 8 per day prior to my 1st quit and when I fell off the 3rd time, I was up to 13 - 17 per day!! I doubled my smoking in 4 monthes!! Perhaps you should head to your doc and ask him / her for assistance! Do not be afraid to say you need help! I am not sure which method you picked to help you quit smoking but your doc can help you out. Keep going Jess!! Do not cave in but raise your hand and tell your doc you need help!! That is what they are there for!! To help you get better!! Fear is not the only reason you are doing this. That is Ol' Mr. Nicodemon telling you another lie. Junkie thinking at it's best. Dissect the lies of addictions. Read and gain all the knowledge you can about smoking and quitting. Arm yourself so that you never have to live your life with your head stuck in the sand again. I promise you will be so happy you did. Being a non smoker rocks. I am busy living life now instead of wasting it. Smoking takes up so much time and resources. It robs not only us, but everyone around us that loves us. Treat your body like a temple instead of a shack. Jess, you doing this for many GOOD reasons. Maybe it's time to sit down and write them out. This quit is for YOU. Lady is right, Dad would be proud -- but you have to make this happen. Your life depends on it. Not smoking is tough, I spent a lot of my first month not feeling well and I kept telling myself that I would feel better. I joked that my body was rejecting ME for not letting it feed it's habit. But it was true. I'm proud to say I WON that war, and you will too, stay strong and fight as hard as you can for this. You will be VERY happy you did. Never let your guard down. We are here to lend a hand. Take good care.
