Do We Really Need To Be Crabby?

Nice to see the possitive attitudes. I have a very possitive attitude about my quit this time around. Even if I belong to the crabbyass club today. Gonnadoit, Im really concerned for you... hope this helps. The term "Negative Emotions" implies all those emotions which are negative in character. They prevent us from seeing and accepting the life situations naturally. "Negative Emotions" are primarily responsible for gradual declination or downfall of our normal thinking process, which is essential for our natural (unforced) survival, even in the struggle for existence! As said above, there are various ways of expressing negative emotions like jealousy, anger, envy, greed, sloth, shame, guilt etc. Even the pleasant things in excess like over-enthusiasm, passions, elations or even certain forms of love, can also generate negative emotions. Despite being of no use to us, negative emotions are tremendously powerful. They can debilitate our lives extremely quick. A life-long friendship may come to an end with few words; suspicion or doubting the moral character of partner may lead to divorce or make disastrous choices, because we are out to prove something. We have to give up something if we wish to make space for something new in our lives. We can hardly be receptive to higher forces when we are busy in criticizing or quipping others. Purging Negative emotions from the core of psyche at proper timing is the most crucial decision. Well-balanced nature, and a rational or optimistic attitude towards life leads to positive self-image and in turn, satisfying relationships with friends and others. Please remember, your innate nature and general behavioral traits dominates your thoughts, feelings, and mental make-up that affect your overall life. Having emotionally balanced nature and pragmatic attitude help you make good decisions and deal with life's challenges at home and workplace. We cannot learn to swim if we fall in the sea during a storm. We must learn swimming in a calm water. Then perhaps if we fall in we'll be able to swim. Obviously, deal with negative emotions becomes easier when we see that our repertoire of negative emotions is quite limited.

Gonnadoit, Thanks for the reply. From the pervious post I worried that the stress was getting you down and this could weaken ones commitment, but now I feel your strength. We all have bad days and that when it the hardest to stay positive, but also the most important days to keep focused. Sorry to hear you feel others may have belittled you, but everyone has an opinion and sometime we all dont agree. The only thing that I know we all should agree on is, WE ARE QUITTERS or non-smokers, depending on the opinion. Stay strong.. GREAT POST!!! I hear you screaming Rainie!!! POSITIVE THINKING will help overcome. Too many times have I seen and/or experienced the overwhelming burdens of negative thinking. The wallowing in pity and fearing the worst will only make situation harder. no matter what the situation is. We can not give in to the nagging fear of failure. The lack of positive thinking will cloud the brain and make it difficult to see the best. The time spend worrying, the days of anger, the months of mental punishment and years imprisoned in our own pity, will only support the fear of failure. If you dont think you can accomplish something, then you will never succeed. Experience isnt what happens to us, its how we deal with My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 492 Amount Saved: $84 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 40 Seconds: 14

I have to put my two cents in for gonnadoit. I agree that this is a support group. People should vent what they are really feeling. Some people see the glass half full, and some see it half empty. If every post that I read was negative feelings about not smoking, I would be smoking right now. You HAVE to look at the positive side of not smoking to make it happen. You obviously have some positive effects going on for you or you wouldn't have made it this far. I think the point of this thread is to look at the bright side of things. We all obviously know what the negative side effects are. If you focus on the positive, you will definately feel the positive. It is kind of like a pep rally for us non smokers. We are proud of ourselves and this is the only place on earth I know of that is going to accept our excitement weeks, months, and years into our quit. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 848 Amount Saved: $235.2 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 5 Mins: 33 Seconds: 46

Hi Rainey - I have found myself to be more patient too. I think it is because we are not stimulating ourselves with nicotene. I don't seem to be in such a hurry anymore either. We have added more time to our lives than we thought! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 53 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 809 Amount Saved: $222.6 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 48 Seconds: 21

Me too!! I was definitely in the crabbyass club yesterday and the day before but today, I'm fine. A lot more relaxed. The first week is called "Hell Week," the second week is called "Heck Week," so what's the third week called? :confuse: Tutti My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 628 Amount Saved: $39 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 32 Seconds: 18

I belonged to the crabbya@@ club yesterday, but am happy again today. Life is just like that sometimes, smoking or not smoking. The only difference is that when we get crabby, we just add not being able to smoke to our mental list of things that annoy us. Being positive is the most important thing not only in not smoking, but also in life!
Accept that life is hard, and every day will be good, for you will appreciate the easy stuff. Actually, I have NEVER felt as though anyone has belittled me on this site. Even if they had...I probably did not notice...I tend to have rather tough skin. I have noticed this on others' posts, however, in recent weeks and I think it is mean. Oh, and BTW, this is in NO WAY directed at Rainey, who started this thread. Keep the quit! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,971 Amount Saved: $1432 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 23 Mins: 57 Seconds: 21

Excellent points, Hadenuf. Perhaps my post was a wee bit overzealous and exaggerated. I consider myself to be a rather positive person. I have been here since May and finally find myself in what I consider a successful quit. I come here less and less as time wears on. Some because I am busy, some because I think less about smoking, and some because of responses from others. Everyone's quit is different and everyone has their own struggles. There are some who have quit that maintain that it was not a struggle at all for them and belittle the genuine struggles of others. To a very great extent, it is mind-set and I am sure we all recognise that. It took me several attempts to get the mind-set right and emotionally I was a wreck. Those individuals that are treading water need a lot of support. When they bare their souls the last thing they need is someone ridiculing them and invalidating their feelings. Yes, we need to post the positive---that is very important. But lets not offer put-downs to those that are suffering. We've lost some very important folks along the way due to this.....
