Day Three - Whew!

18 years ago 0 420 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
2tone, I've enjoyed reading about your days, as today is my Day 1! It hasn't been too bad so far. We had an ice storm yesterday, so I feel a little cooped up today, although I'll get out and about later. Every time I've tried to quit, I don't think I ever really tried... I just talked about it! lol I did quit for 3 days one time when I had bronchitis, but then bought a pack thinking I could smoke just one. I remember sitting at the kitchen table, smoking about 3 in a row. That was about 10 years ago. I've smoked for 32 years, and just couldn't imagine life without smoking. This time, I'm looking very forward to a life without smoking and having my lung power back! Good luck to you, and know that even though people don't all respond, we are all learning from your posts and others! :)

Hey, 2tone! Glad to see you made it through a tough day! My 3rd day was tough as well. Like you, I know I will never smoke again. I wouldn't say that out loud or think it before. I like the finality of it. You're right about staying vigilant and not getting too comfortable with our quits. You really never know when its going to smack you right between the eyes! Congrats on day 3! You're going great! Stay strong. :)Pat. Hi everyone - I'm starting to remember why I never really suceeded in quiting before; because it's hard! I know that I've been pretty smug over the past few weeks (leading up to and quitting) but today, on my third day, I woke up with a craving that would put a horse down! It was followed by the mother of all headaches...I guess day three is filled with alot of physical withdrawal... Anyway, I walked it off, took a shower and the time has past. My point is is that you never know when your addiction is going to slap you in the face...get comfortable with your quit, but don't ever get too comfortable... I know I will never smoke again (something that I never declared in my previous quits), but I'm starting to remember why people start smoking again after long quits - they're tired of fighting...they think it will never end. Your mind will always play tricks with you at your most vulnerable moments. I have smoked my entire adult life. I don't even know how to act without a smoke in my hand...it's like learning to walk and talk again...only a different way. Not too easy. Anyway, I will always be smoke-free from now on. It just gets real hard sometimes... Peace. 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 65 Amount Saved: $11 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 9 Seconds: 37

Hang in there! I am a few days in front of you and know just how hard the first few days are. In a way, though, that is good news. It has made me really determined to never have to go through this again. I know that I am just one drag away from a 20 a day habit and can never let my guard down. Just go one day at a time and the days will mount up. 2tone - I am at day 3 now and like you I have awaken to a banger of a headache! It has been amazing the tricks my mind has been playing on me - "just one puff and the headache will go away" - you can always set another quit date when you are feeling better - if you want to be heatlhier work on the diet and exercise first.....the list goes on and on! You are an inspiration to me when I needed it the most - this first really bad urge has passed - thank you! Keep up the good work and positive attitude!

2tone: Wow, you said a mouthful. Protecting your quit is so important and never letting down your guard. It DOES get easier to cope and that's why I think we begin to get a little complacent. Today is 12 weeks for me and I've done very well, but for some reason, today has been a tough one. I have no idea why and it just blindsided me. So I did the same thing you did -- checked my attitude -- took a lot of deep breaths, apologized in advance to my husband, and chewed a tremendous amount of sugarless bubble gum. But cave in? Not a chance! You're doing great -- keep fighting the good fight, you're worth it. Keep the faith. 2tone, so glad you made it through day 3....no it's not easy sometimes, but you put it perfectly. People loose their quits, because they think these craves and trigger's that beat us up are never going to end and we get weak. The important thing to remember is that the craves and trigger's DO lighten up, and we are actually stronger every time we fight one off. Also, always remember what you posted above about never getting too comfortable with your quit....you are so right that a trigger or a crave can come out of nowhere with no advance warning...happened to me this morning. You have to be on guard when this happens. The addiction is tricky...but you are way trickier and stronger than the addiction. Keep fighting the good fight!!! Yes it does. It is quite a struggle, but well worth it...and it DOES get easier as time passes. I hope you feel better soon. I truly hate a headache! 2tone dude,
it's like learning to walk and talk again...only a different way

I don't even know how to act without a smoke in my hand
You're post is quite inspirational, all this on day 2 ! - it took me weeks to get to this stage, just Shows how everyones quit is different. Yes it gets hard, but my tip for you my friend.... when that 'i want a Cigarette ' thought pops into your head, blast it ! Shoot the mutha trucka right out of your head with a 12 quage.. that's right, train you're mind to squash these thoughts & they will work their way to the back of your head just like mine (i can't even hear them anymore !). Stoping smoking is a journey & yes, by learning to 'walk & talk' again you become a different person. Sounds like you're truly on the road to recovery my friend.
