Aunt Deb, you can be my mentor. Do you accept? Want to start now? I have a terrible day with cravings. We're moving office and i spent the day cleaning out someone else's files (which are now mine), paper, paper, boxing, lifting heavy boxes. I thought about smoking the whole way home. The trigger I think is that I've moved office space before and always rewarded myself by having smoke breaks. Before I start a novel, I will wait to hear back from you LOL. Pam, thanks for starting this. There are a couple of others interested and I'ld love to stay in contact when I find time to pop on here. Reading right now keeps me focused on why I decided to quit smoking. Sigh, I can't stop talking LOL, next weekend we're having dinner with 3 other couples, all smokers. I can't avoid my friends' forever, have to and want to have the dinner, overnight at their house, etc. I'm afraid I'll cave! Any tips? Pam, Be glad to help if You think I'm qualified? I'm a new 2007 quitter, but I also am an Old Quitter too who dealt with everything cold-turkey quitters go through...and that plus having experience with relapse....may be very valuable to new quitters. auntdeb at your service :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,033 Amount Saved: $190 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 17 Seconds: 41

I'm in the same position -- would be happy to be a mentor, but can't for the life of me figure out the IM. I've tried and all I get is the list of who's wandering the site, but can't figure out how to actually connect. Does someone have to actually choose my name as a "Buddy" in order for this to work? Someone wrote once that you have to disable your security, but I have no clue how to go about doing that, IF that's even the problem I guess I'm not as bright as I thought I was! I'm also happy to provide whatever support I can, with the caveat that IM is not the best way to contact me; but did someone say you could leave and pick up messages there? If that's the case, I'd be happy to provide more reliable contact information. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 104 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,233 Amount Saved: $572 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 2 Mins: 45 Seconds: 2

Aunt Deb, It's not whether "I" think that you're qualified... but rather if YOU feel that you are qualified. I personally believe that every single person on this board has something to offer, whether this is their first quit or their thousandth, or whether it's their first day or their thousandth. So yes, personally, I think that you would be a wonderful mentor... and don't be surprised if your "mentee" helps you too! I encourage ALL quitters to find at least 3 people to buddy up with... one that is ahead of them in the quit, somebody who quit right at the same time with them and somebody who is a little behind them. I think having that support system in place will help EVERYBODY involved! And I can't stress how important quit buddies are! I'd be lost without mine! Crave the Quit! Come on older quitters! There are several people on the mentor thread who need mentors! Let's all try to help those who are coming after us by helping just one person be successful with quitting. And do you think you don't have enough days on your meter to be a mentor? Think again! Those who are 1 month to 2 months in are sometimes the BEST mentors because they have just been through the worst of the beginning and it is very fresh in their minds. So please, jump in and help those who are just starting this journey. I'm afraid I'm too busy right now to take on another one, as I already have about 3, otherwise I would be happy to try to help another person. But please! If you can, help somebody out! Jump on IM and exchange email/IM addresses! NEITHER of you will be sorry! I promise! Mentoring (and being mentored) is an awesome experience! Crave the Quit!
