Weight gain associated with sensations.

That's interesting... the sensation thing. I've been having this sensation, or awareness of when I eat certain foods. It's as if I like the way they "chew" or something. I've been trying to figure it out... it's weird. Mine is cashews and of course, chocolate. I love the way the cashews crunch. It's a soft crunch. lol Try, I think I understand your "sensation" concept. I've gained about 5 pounds, and have decided if I can just keep from gaining more, I'll be okay for now. I've tried to start dieting, but I'm starting to see why you all say to wait until later into the quit. I just can't take away everything at once, although I've been eating much healthier, but just refuse to give up a little chocolate and pepsi. Those little guys will have to go one day, but just not yet! When my current can of cashews are gone, I'm not buying any more. I started snacking on shredded wheat. Doesn't that just make your mouth water? lol My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 428 Amount Saved: $81.06 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 11 Seconds: 52

I've never thought about that before try. I think that I have been using food as comfort food. The good news is that a fruit smoothy (which is pretty healthy and not too high in calories) is now able to make me just as happy as some of those other foods did earlier in my quit. For once, it's nice to be addicted to something that is good for me! I have ALWAYS eaten foods because of the "feel" of eating them. I love bread sticks, biscuits, peanuts, carrots and chewing on sponges (the bath variety!!!) I've been trying to rein those urges in for much of the time - and you know what? They actually pass pretty much like a crave does. Drinking water and eating frozen grapes helps. Eating sweet corn is just delectable. Yummy. Finding alternatives to the baddies (the chocolate; the nuts; the biscuits) is a challenge but one that I'm actually enjoying. I want to set a better example to my daughter so that always helps. Gah - it's tough sometimes, isn't it? Tryagain, Very interesting post! It may also have to do with a renewed sense of taste & smell making the whole experience more pleasurable? You can still enjoy all these foods, just watch your portions. Instead of having a slice of pie, try two bites and use another coping strategy like drinking ice water or a good distraction. Keeping a diary of who, what, where, when and how you are feeling may also help you understand your reasons for this new habit. Keep us posted. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Oh be careful there - don't overeat. Trust me, losing quit weight has been the toughest and I've been pregnant four times and never had to work this hard. Eat healthy and find some gum/mints you really enjoy ! Every time I quit smoking I gained a lot of weight, this time I finally realized one of the reasons. It's a sensation of a certain food in my mouth. I once at a whole watermelon because I liked the feeling. I remember eating pumpkin pie after pumpkin pie for the same reason. With this quit, it seems to be cherry pie. It has nothing to do with being hungry, it's associated with physical sensations that turn into cravings for a certain food. I hope that realizing this will help me deal with yet another symptom, another craving, and think that this too will pass.
