hormonal origins of panic?

21 years ago 0 12 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
WannaBeMe, I believe that hormones control a lot of my panic symptoms as well. I was doing really well with my panic attacks for years and then doctor's noticed I had ovarian cysts. I had surgery to have them removed and in that surgery they noticed I have serious endometriosis. My treatment for now is hormone shots of Lupron. My panic has gone up a million times more since I have been on these shots. I also think it really has to do with the fact that I might not be able to have children. I completely agree with you though and I can tell you it's the awful hormones your not going crazy.

thats a good idea..I have been keeping a diary at home on a real calendar, but its sorta silly when I bring that thing in to the doctor :p *its like a desk calendar* I have been using the diary offered here...its great, I especially like that I can add whatever comments I might want to make. thanks for the advice Anne-Marie.

Well one way to find a connection is to fill out your Panic Diary every single day and to note your menstual cycle along with it. Even if you do not have regular mentrual cycles, there might be an observable hormone fluctuation pattern your doctor can still help to decipher. So consider printing it out and taking it with you to the doctor's. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Hi Marianne :) thanks for writing back. I guess it might be the retaining water issue then that is setting me off so bad recently...I guess I just want to point at something verifiable and say There! THAT is what has been making me do these things and feel this way! well...bye for now... have a good day :)

Hi wannabeMe, My periods are regular as clockwork but I'm always at my worst in the last quarter of the cycle when I retain a lot of water. Heart palpitations and sweating and painful breasts feed into my anxiety, too. Marianne

Hi group :) well... I am wondering a few things. Does anyone else around here have other symptoms that are supposedly not related to their panic disorder but that they feel are? I have really irregular periods, like 5 - 6 months between sometimes, and I am 28. This is not normal... I have been to an endochronologist and numerous doctors who decided I have polycystic ovarian disease. Of course, according to them none of my other symptoms could possibly be related to this disease. So, now I an being treated with the orthoevra patch... but it is in the first few days of using that that my panic first came back(actually around 2 months ago... but I kept it together still until lately). I was able to control it until now...but I really feel like there is a pattern to my attacks that includes retaining ALOT of water, which contributes to the heart palpitations and stuff, which feeds into my anxiety etc. I really really feel like some of this stuff has physiological roots...there is even some study my mom was telling me about in which they had found a chromosomal abnomality in people with this problem. Maby I am just grasping at straws, I had a rough night and for some reason after a rough night I cant let go and feel normal... I have to be in a constant state of near panic... *whimper* I am so discouraged right now. I feel like crying... I felt so good last night... now I am feeling like i could freak out...maby a good cry will help...its weird, but sometimes making myself sneeze helps a little bit too :p bye for now... hopeing to hear about your experiences.
