I lost my sister in 99 to lung cancer that wasn't enough to make me quit.. My brother had quad bipass around that time also Last Sunday he was given his last rites before his operation to correct surgery resulting from clogged arteries ,3 days in ICU and he is in a room now recovering He dodged a major bullet,, I vowed before I seen him to myself I don't want to allow myself to advance to that type of stage in my life,,,,I have a wonderful homelife and I can't destroy that and me at once. Good luck

That was a huge wake up call and congratulations for listening to it. I'm glad you are back and on board. I hope your friends sister will be okay ... such a sad story.

Wake up call for Hillary!! It sounds like you were listening -- good for you! It was a LOUD call, wasn't it? Kind of hard to ignore. I did the same thing (in fact, at three weeks, too). But you know what? I think I needed to do it in order to make this stick. The cigs tasted SO nasty and I was SO disgusted with myself. I realized then that I really DID want to quit more than I wanted to smoke and that's what it takes, as you know. But here's the encouraging part, Hillary. I haven't looked back since. You can do the same. Confession is good for the soul -- good for you for owning up. Now get on with that quit! Need I say any more? Hillary, Its time to strap your guns on. Its time to get down and dirty! Get tough, eliminate those trigger points. When that urge comes, walk away drom what you are doing and shake your head. Convince yourself that the urge will do damage to you. Keep saying to yourself " NOPE, I WONT LET YOU BEAT ME" Remember what you were doing when the urge came and then stay away from that situation. If the urge came from nowhere, then just walk away and do something like ummm, pop a hunk of gum in your mouth, but keep busy. Fight this thing with the tools that you have and keep your will power strong. I am not sure about any one else, but when I get that urge, i like orange juice. Some thing about vit c helped me. But keep in your mind and keep thinking about that mass that your friends sister in law has. That should do it in its self. I am sure you dont want that kind of news. Good luck, good luck, you can beat this urge, have faith!! Its beatable!! Okay, so I screwed up for a few days and talked myself out of my 3 week quit. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I probably only smoked 1/2 a pack over 3 days, but what a disappointment! I woke up this morning feeling all yucky with swollen eyes and my ears plugged, and thought, "You did this to yourself." I guess I needed to be reminded of some of the reasons I quit in the first place. Plus, funny how only a few weeks can remind you how bad they taste!!!! A friend of mine called and said that her sister in her early 30s has a large mass in her lung, and she's been smoking for 15 years or so. I'd rather not wait until something like that makes me quit. So I'm back on the wagon. Again. Hillary, I am sorry that you feel so rotten but I was wondering if we could both learn from it. Only if you are able.... could you describe how you were feeling just before you broke down? Like was there a war of words going on in your head or something? I sure would like to be able recognise the 3 week crisis time and put it in its place. If you are able, thanks!
