Hi again Hummy, groovygirl and mad englishman :) t/y (I've sure enjoyed reading everything you guys are posting) -- Tom reminded me that sometimes stress & worry are the same thing. -- Worry, worry go away I've always been a bit of a worrywart. Thank goodness, I have learned some techniques that help me. Maybe they could help you too. -A sure way to stop worrying too much about an unresolved issue is to make a decision. Even bad decisions could be better than doing nothing. Nothing can fill your mind with worry/stress quite so much as decisions waiting to be made. Just make them. If they prove to be bad decisions, just make new ones. -Action towards a goal tends to diminish worry. Doing nothing but thinking too much about a goal, especially if you dwell on the obstacles, will cause you worry and stress. Certainly you should plan well, but when planning turns into worrying, go ahead and spring into action. -When my mind fills up with too much stuff. I make a list and feel better. Maybe you've had similar experiences. If you're thinking too much about something, and you stop to schedule a time to work on it, it is easier to let go of it for now. Write down that thing you have to do on tomorrow's list, and you'll feel less worried now. I once read that by creating "mental categories." Just telling ourselves, "There is nothing I can do about this until tomorrow," can put a worry into a category of "nothing to worry about now." AND -Confront the worst problems head-on. It isn't the problems themselves, but the anticipation of problems that causes the most worry. Deal with them head on as soon as is possible, and resolve them to the extent possible. (At the very least, it is something "else" to think about) ~all the best, N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 176 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,889 Amount Saved: $880 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 18 Mins: 41 Seconds: 47

Bump for Tom~ Tom, Reading this all at once may feel 'clinical' and 'easier said than done'. However, if you will break it up and just try one or two things it can help. For instance, slow breathing. It takes practise to remember to do it but once you 'get it' it REALLY WORKS. It slows your heart rate and let's you 'think' instead of just reacting. ~all the best N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 175 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,868 Amount Saved: $875 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 16 Mins: 31 Seconds: 48

One of me wanted to quit smoking but another kept saying just one more. Then another read the Allen Carr book and knew it was time. And yet another me claims to have never been told of these so-called smoking related diseases... Needless to say the strongest me ate the others and now I'm six months quit and quite full. Cold Turkeys have to be cannibals sometimes. N2K...this is a great thread. Thanks for all the stress reducers! Sometimes its really hard not to let life get us down but we must march forward. If one thing doesn't work, keep trying until you find what does. :) A walk with a really good friend that isn't afraid to tell you how Ridiculous your behaviour and thinking is does wonders for the soul as well. :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 251 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,027 Amount Saved: $878.5 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 3 Mins: 40 Seconds: 21
