Hi Brit here!

Thanks Penguin and Jan. :) I've been trying to keep myself busy with those scratchy pictures. Do you know the ones I mean? They are completely boring but the first time I got one, I think it was day 3 or 4, I scratched away at it, grrr, all night until I went to bed. Lol. My arm was killing me, but I guess it got me through it. I used to smoke in my conservatory. I can't bring myself to go in there. Oh. I did once and could smell the old smoke smell so tried to irrigate it with powerful industrial strength air fresheners! Ha. I did wonder about trying without the patches now, but I'm not sure how I'd be. It's strange but today I have definitely felt more relaxed than I did when I smoked. I spent 2 hours in the supermarket and I was calm all the way through. Usually I hate it, the kids play up, but today I seemed to float through it. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. :) :) I know I'll probably have times where I could grab the school secretary by her starched collar and tell her through my teeth that I know my children are late, that is why I have bought them to the office like I have been told to..... Grr!! Deep breaths Claire.. Calm, lol :) :) (I haven't really just felt like it one day, then walked into town sobbing uncontrollably. That was a BAD day.) Good luck to you. :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 318 Amount Saved: 66 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 35 Seconds: 17

Thank you so much all of you for your lovely welcome! I wondered if I'd get any replies so it was great to read them. It's so nice that there is a place for us to chat about it, if we need to. Thanks for your support! :) I'm so glad I'm going through this. Even though it is hard I know there are much harder things in life. I decided to give up after going for an x-ray to look at my chest because I had noticed a couple of my ribs near the top stuck out more than the others. I had to wait a week for the results, getting more and more worried, lol, and decided that if the results came back normal I would pack the fags in. Definitely. For Good! I was worried more about my three children and how unfair it would be for them to have to grieve so young. So many thoughts go through your head, right? :) Thankfully they came back normal!! Yay!! But after getting the results I couldn't help but think of the people who phone for results to tests and they're told they have to see the doctor and felt for them. I didn't want to have to be in that position especially through my own hand, if you know what I mean. :) I quit on the seventh of this month. I think I entered it in my passport wrong. My brain since I packed up is a bit dizzier than usual... I can't help wondering if it is the patches. Has anyone after putting a patch on in the morning felt a tingling in the lips? Ever so slight? I've just felt really lightheaded and spaced out. So I'm going to go on to the lower strength, step 2 ones. I hope no one minds me prattling on. I've had a sinus infection the last few days. Just when I was starting to smell and taste! Now I can't do either!! :) Feel a bit better now antibiotics are kicking in. Thanks again everyone. Good luck to all of you. We are all doing fantastic!!! We can do it!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Thanks Kaitilina. :) I'm really glad I came accross this site. My favourite thing is treating myself. I bought a new pair of boots last weekend and this weekend an MP3 player! I'm trying to see them as something that I wouldn't have had if I was still smoking. If I was still smoking I would have smoked that money and thrown the butts in the bin. Positive thinking is definitely helping me. :) Good luck with your quit, too! Thanks again. :) Claire x

'British' not 'Britney', lol. Hi everyone, ;p I am on day 13 right now. Seems like it should be longer for some reason. I'm using patches. Not sure if they're helping or whether it's my willpower doing all the work but I daren't take them off anyway, lol. If anyone wants a chat if they see me online that would be good. Everyone in my house has never smoked so sometimes feels as if they couldn't possibly understand what it is like to go through. It would be nice to chat with someone going through the same thing. I'm not finding it too bad.But feel like I'm missing something and find it hard to know what to do with myself. But I definitely feel better then I did in the first few days. :) Claire

Welcome Brit, you are really doing great. I'm also on Day 13 and using the patches, and although the patches are really helping with physical withdrawl symptoms, attitude is everything, and yours sounds great. You will find a great deal of support on this website. There is also alot of great information, so read as much as you can and post often. I look forward to hearing lots from you. Filling the your "smoking" voids will get better as time goes on. Be creative, and come up with little things you can do when you feel bored, and remember, it doesn't always have to be a chore. I purchased some great magazines, and I will sometimes just sit quietly and read an article or two for 5-10 minutes to give myself a small break. Hang tough!! Hi exile, Welcome to the forum! You're off to a really good start and I think joining this site will help you even more. Everyone is kind and helpful here. The Program Tools on the left are very useful and I'm sure it would be well worth your while to go through them. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your posts. WELCOME BRIT! You have done well already! I'm so glad you found this site; there is lots of information here and so many supporting and caring people, it feels like family very quickly! Have you done the quit program workbook to your left? And read lots of posts here, knowledge really is power. I couldn't have done it without these folks here, so post often, both when you can give help and when you need it. Congratulations for choosing freedom. Hi Exile and welcome to SCC - You are doing so well. Keep posting and reading...there is tons of support here. I quit using patches as well...I believe that Tuesday will be the end of them. I actually questioned if today should be the end as I forgot to put one on until about 2 hours ago. Having said that, be very careful if you decide to give up the patches completely. Be prepared that you will likely have 3 or 4 nasty days of withdrawal. However, many "cold turkeys" have preferred to do it this way to get the nicotine out of their system more quickly. I have followed the program and dropped down gradually. I have been smoking for so long that I almost forgot what life was like without cigarettes and I knew that I was not ready to tackle both parts of my addiction at the same time. We hope to hear more from you along the way. Keep posting and keep up the good quit! Glad to have you, aboard, exile. I can definitely relate with not knowing what to do with yourself. I know that part of it gets better. I can't wait. You're doing really well. Keep up the great work and keep posting.
