Withdrawal different already being sick?

18 years ago 0 6 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thank you for your input and responses! As for the cold it is more under control today - but as for the withdrawal.......oh it's there full force! I am having moments of feeling "out-of-control" wanting a cig - mind playing games and shoving stuff in my mouth (not the healthy stuff either!) I am at a calm moment right now so I have re-affirmed my list of what to do - what to eat and am going to be prepared again for the next episode (I hope!) I did notice last night after taking the boys out - upon my return I had a brief moment of clear sinus' - my house smelled like an old ashtray! Gross! So today I am going to try to get some house cleaning done - clean some carpets, etc. I know I will be bouncing around from project to project (not my usual style) but have noticed on past quit efforts that is what I do but I have broken everything down into teeny tiny projects so that when I look at my list there are items crossed off. Thanks again and I appreciate all the postings here - knowing I am not alone and others have taken on this battle and have won the war!!

I had decided on a quit date of 12/30/06. The day finally comes and I have been very sick with a cold for 2 days. Of course, being sick did not stop me from smoking - it never has. I did stick with my quit date of 12/30 - I figured what the heck I usually get sick when I quit smoking any how - I am just 1/2 way there! I am using NRT. The patch - still have my very bad cold - still really wanting a cig - but not having one. Was wondering if anyone knew - once I do shake this cold - will I go thru another hell week? Just wondering - trying to prepare myself - this is to be my final quit date. Bungee: Welcome. Sorry about the cold, but here's the good news: I had a cold a week or two ago and miracle of all miracles, that's what it was -- a cold! A simple cold that came and went. Not bronchitis, not a sinus infection that took three rounds of industrial strength antibiotics to clear up -- just a cold! That was huge for me -- I can't remember the last time a cold was just a cold. Do you think maybe I've made the right decision to become a nonsmoker? Oh, yeah! You're doing the right thing by trying to prepare for the inevitable cravings and by distracting yourself. Here's a thought, too: I think it was 2Tone who suggested that just because we have a smoking THOUGHT, maybe we just assume it's a "craving". Makes sense to me. Just look at it as a simple thought rather than a craving. A thought is fairly easy to divert. Keep at it and keep the faith! Of course you must endure another Hell Week. Being sick and all is no excuse for not being in full physical health enough to be made miserable by a week of depriving your body and mind of a truly bad habit. In fact, if in your second week of quit, you discover that it only feels like a "Heck" week as opposed to a "Hell" week. You are hereby ordered to contact us immediately for a full refund by which you will promptly be delivered to the beginning of a proper Hell week. And eat some chicken soup. I want you to appreciate this week, especially so that it serves as reminder to never go back. I don't suppose it will make your hell week any longer than anyone elses; and I do believe that we make it as hard as we want it to be with our attitude. But as soon as you are well, the craves will no doubt get stronger, so be prepared for that, ok? And congratulations on deciding to quit. You do sooooo deserve the freedom! Hi bungee, Not smoking will probably make the cold go away quicker - even if you are going through withdrawals. Some people speak of coughing a bit more when the hairs on the wind-pipes get active again, but others don't have a cough at all. Stopping smoking is the BEST thing you can do for your health. Don't be frightened, you're doing the best thing possible for yourself. Good luck. Hi Bungee All of our quits are different... Hell week Heck week don't know. I had road rage and was unsafe to drive for the first 2 weeks. To be honest my patience still is not what it was 21 weeks ago! I was(I hope)finally 100% clear on around day 140 But I had decided never to smoke again after day one ......... I wouldn't think you would go through another hell week. After all, the point is that during that time the nicotine is leaving your body. A cold wouldn't interfere with that. Hope your cold gets better...smoking sure won't help you recover.
