Nicorette Gum question

17 years ago 0 56 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My question is the same as yours - although the nicorette booklet tells us to stay on for 12 full week, I never felt that I needed any where near the doses they were recommending nor for as long - I am on day 63 now and have been coping with 1 nicorette a day for about a week. Tomorrow I intend to try and get of that completely. But to someones point on this board, these NRTs are there to be just that - replacement- and if taking an extra NRT means not have that cigarette, then it has worked. My current struggle is that I have had a continous crave now for 3 to 4 weeks that is engaging me into debates with myself. The first week was easier - thats unique. Good luck all and good luck - the encouraging thing is for those that seem to be on the fence, we are strong and not smoking - just discussing it My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,261 Amount Saved: $189 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 4 Mins: 35 Seconds: 22

Hope someone can help. I am about to make 6 weeks. I used the gum...and from the get-go I used about 3 to 4 pieces a day (2mg mint). I generally still use 3 peices a day. Is it too soon to try and get off the gum.... or should I stay on it longer. How bad are the craves when you give up the gum? Is it like going cold turkey...or is it much milder? Is it better to bite the 2 mg in half and still have three pieces.. or is it better to have 2 a day and then 1 a day. Any advice on what works best. Well 1st off... CONGRATULATIONS on 6 weeks smoke free ! I didn't use the gum, am using the patches, so maybe do what other's do with NRT's and ween yourself off of the gum.. maybe go down to 2 pieces a day until you feel comfortable, then step down to 1 piece and then none? Just a suggestion :) Hope you have a nice reward planned for your 6 weeks smoke free :):) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,025 Amount Saved: $459 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 18 Mins: 21 Seconds: 20

I'm also on the gum. I was a heavy smoker, so I'm a heavy "gummer" or chewer or whatever. It took me two weeks get below two BOXES of 4mg a week. I'm down to 6 pcs of 4mg. I'm trying to delay the first piece and use regular gum instead. I'm trying to follow the program as directed by the instructions. I have my sticker on the calendar on which date I will step down to 2 mg, and the date I will be quit of NRT all together. I expect to have some withdrawals without NRT at all. I've been told that they last 3-4 days while the last of the nicotine leaves the system. I think I will do acupuncture deep relaxation for those days. Mercy, The aids are there to help, so use what you need. If you want to get off the gum, then take the time to prepare for it and use coping mechanisms, this will help you be ready for any craves that might arise. Check with your pharmacist for knowledge regarding the gum :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
