Helllo to all of you that responded to my call for help! It is Sunday and I worked late last night and opened at 5am this morning pushing Coffee and goodies at StarBucks. I did not sleep much because my mind refused to shut down, nope do not drink Coffee, fun, if I did I would be needing a group for quiting that too soon. lol. For those of you who don't konw it SB's allows its employees all the free coffee they want while working. Of course that is why you expect " Fast" service with SB's. lol Seriously, I am blessed beyond what I can put in words right now. I did not expect the answers you all gave to me and support. Today opening your posts was like going to a suprise party and the birthday girl was me! Thank you all so much for you honesty and caring. I hope I can be as insitful and honest back to you all. All of what you all said hit home and some harder than others. My husband was upset when I stopped drinking, hates when I try to eat right and now not a word that I have stopped smoking. I like the idea of going outside for deep breaths but now withoutt he smoke entering into the body. I am just so blessed you have no idea how you all tuned into me. I am excited and happy I now have friends I can talk to. I started stopping to smoke back earlier this year and my meter is all wrong. Can I go back and start it over? Well I am exausted and I want to go outside before I crash. Again, Thank you and I look forward to a long relationship here while we all remain smoke free. I will share my history some other day. Blessings to all and to all good night Faith

It has been one week totally free of smoking and three weeks when I had two or three. I also gave up sodas and today I feel like a could just go nuts. I am bothered now and then with smoking and I have sat in a friens home for afew minutes with the smoke but then I left because I did not want my clothes to smell. I stopped drinking beer 7 years ago and then I went threw two deaths and 9/11 and I had a set back. Now I am free of all adictions and it seems my husband could care less. He never complained about either, I did not smoke in the home and I smoked about 1/2 a pack a day. I went down to two or three a day and then only once or twice a week. I am finding it very hard today to not smoke beause I smoked to get away from the true feelings I have about my horrible marriage. But physically I feel speedy and was wondering if its the detoxing from the smoking. Faith

Faith, I can almost see your eyes light up in your last post and see your shoulder's lift, you don't have the weight of the world on them anymore. You can do this, and this site is a wonderful resource and support to help you succeed. Take it one day and one craving at a time. You can do this. Hi Faith, You are doing great! One of the reasons some people quit is to gain a feeling of control over their behavior and through that, their lives. If your partner happens to be one of those people who are only happy when they are in control over, or are manipulating someone else, don't be surprised that he's not happy for you. If he is this way, you might even notice him trying to sabotage your efforts to regain your life. On the other hand, perhaps you felt guilty about your addictions and he just did not see them as threatening as you see them. Whatever the reality of your situation is, you will soon be at a point where you will be addiction free and better able to objectively consider it. I'm sure that at that time you will do whatever is best for you. Keep up the good work! Hi, Faith == One of the unpleasant things I discovered was that smoking (and "occasionally" drinking -- ha ha) hid or masked a lot of things I was pretty unhappy about in my own life. If not smoking reveals what you call a "horrible marriage," then I'm all about the heresy of advising you to put the quit on hold and deal with the marriage first. I'm not sensing any danger, and I'm not getting the feeling that kids are involved, but still -- If you're annoyed with spouse because he's not as supportive as you think he should be, that's one thing. If spouse is actually happier with you as an addict either to alcohol, nicotine, or God forbid, something worse, then you gotta wonder why spouse doesn't want you healthy and whole, and those questions (the why's) are screaming for attention. Scary stuff, but we're all here for you, should a radical change of life be what's best for you. Me, I'm lucky; my spouse is all about, "What can we do to make you less angry with your surroundings and circumstances?" She's trying a lot harder to win the lottery to make me a rich man. God love her. But seriously, sometimes a new-found health can raise all kinds of nasty issues that were masked by addiction. You gotta have good support for that; if it's not there, I'm so sorry to be the one to tell you that you should probably address those issues first. If I can help at all, I'm more than glad to. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,344 Amount Saved: $143 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 16 Mins: 58 Seconds: 16

Hi Faith - Usually takes us longer to realize that we used smoking to escape from some of the issues in our life that made us feel lousy. In truth, well it is hell for many of us to address our physical addiction, it is actually harder to tackle our emotional attachment to cigarettes. If you look up some previous threads, you will see that many of us "smoked" our feelings away when someone made us feel angry/upset. However, we can still go outside and take a deep breath (just without the cigarette) Quitting helps us to be healthier, have more energy and to have the confidence to address the issues in our life. If your marriage is "horrible", you definately want to change that. We deal with our addictions for us. It's true that many of the people in our life have no idea how these addictions have affected us and how difficult it is to give them up. You are doing it.....one day at a time. Only you can decide if you want to quit...but it sounds to me like you are ready for some "fresh air" in your life. Good Luck! In the midst of quitting, you gotta deal with all those 'feelings' as well..... My advice would be to concentrate on your quit and analyze your marraige a little later down the road. Several of us contemplated divorce or homocide of our mates early on.... only later to discover that we kinda liked them and they were not as bad as the picture we painted. Give it some time.... Congrats on 7 days---that is terrific!
