Hi Monica, This is my first day on the site, but I really hope things work out for you. Go do something for YOU, like get a pedicure or something. Something TIME consuming where you will see results. You can just sit there and relax for 30 minutes. Then walk to the food court and get a hot pretzel. Good luck to you. If you've made it 2 weeks, you can keep going....

Hey Monica! I'm s0o0o0o0ow happy for you! One more weapon, a black licorice, has rather strong smell & taste which distracts cravings, my cold turkey back-up! As for me, when urges snuck in at work, I thought of pleasant morning walk and thoughts of you made me strong! Since my quit, my nose has turned into K9 special, which I now sniff anything and everything especially on cool morning walks! By the way, do you have one just like mine?? :p

Over the last 2 days I've been hanging on by a thread with all the stressors surrounding me like a pack of dogs with rabies :8o: I'm completely and totally impacted with so much illness all around me -- my mother's partner has 2 mths to live (has cancer..yes, lung cancer from smoking), my in-law's are frail and unwell with age related illnesses, my father is dying ..yes, from lung cancer (a yr ago March had 1/2 of left lung removed from smoking) and now it's in the right lung as he choseto keep smoking after surgery :( and then the hardest stressor is my hubby's declining health.. :( I'm like this close to going to the store.. this has been going on for the last 48 hrs and just buy the damn cigs.. I keep doing the breathing exercises, thinking about the positive things in life, trying to keep on going without the nic.. and KNOWING that if I light up it's NOT going to change any of the above situations! I'm going go out now to the mall.. Maybe if I'm totally away from the phone, hubby, etc... for at least 2-3 hrs I'll be completely distracted ?! I'm not finding an answer to these overwhelming feelings. I've cried.. seems to help,, kinda cleanses me when I do that.. but otherwise I'm just feeling very ,,well, closed in ..like the walls are closing in on me. See whenever I felt this way I'd grab that cig and just enjoy..it seemed to help. Now of course I question that analogy,,but oh man do I want one... *breathing in and out... deep and slowly...* gonna throw on my coat now and bail out of my environment... feeling real low folks.... Oh my.. all of your responses are overwhelmingly supportive.. Thank you ever so much. I did what I said I would do -- went to the mall and pretty much walked around in a daze. I stopped to look in the window of the Disney shop and there was this little girl looking up at me (she was about 6 yrs old).. Well here come the tears now.. When I looked down at her she said.. "I love this store.. it's my favourite!" I don't know why, but I just started to get all choked up.. she then said,, "don't be sad - this is a FUN store!!" I really think I'm losing my mind.. Why would I start to cry ? I think I'm worse off than I really am.. I mean I've been in a depression for four years (since hubby got so sick).. but with the quit and all it seems to have intensified the big stressors. :8o: Anyway I went to Sears and bought myself some night cream, then headed over to the bookstore and bought "The Devil Wears Prada", then my last stop was at the grocery store and picked up a huge bag of cheezies. I'm going to take a long hot shower, pamper myself with skin care products, throw on my favourite housecoat and then read my book while I munch on my cheezies.. may even try to smoke one..lol.. well look at that I made a joke.. Not a great joke, but none the less it was kinda funny! I so hope for a better tomorrow and more importantly -- I DID NOT SMOKE! It feels so good to have you unbelievable people around to lift me up and push me along the right path. ((((((((((((((hugz)))))))))) and many many thank you's! :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 293 Amount Saved: $126 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 14 Mins: 29 Seconds: 49

Thanks to everyone from last evenings posts... My evening went quite well.. The hot shower did me a world of good.. as if my stresses were being washed down the drain. :) I used my personal care products and I smelled real good..lol..and then wrapped that housecoat around me like I was being hugged all night long. :p There were a very moments where I got teary eyed -- did my breathing exercises,,closed my eyes and thought of a pretty beach in Jamaica.. All was now much calmer and then continued reading my book. This a.m. just a little shakey so I just came back from a 2 hour walk! The weather is cool, but the sun is shining so I just walked and breathed in and out and told myself to just take in the moment! You guys are all so wonderful and I cannot thank you enough :) (((((((((((((hugz))))))))))))) I have to go to the hospital in a short while with hubby but I have my 'crave bag' with me, including my diary ..it's often a long wait in between tests etc so I'm arming myself. Feeling stressed, but nothing as bad as yesterday and the day before. Have a super day all.. Hiya cc :) Great idea re the black licorice..will certainly add that to my crave bag! I've already, in 16 days of my quit, gained 5 lbs.. but hey, who cares! Will take care of the weight some time down the road -- My entire focus is on the quit. You know cc we all have our own levels of stressful days/times and we own our own stresses. Some get stressed over the smallest things and other's can handle the worst things with such ease.. I'm still doing all I can to hold on because I just keep getting the calls from my mom, my dad and it's all really bad health talk. Will find out more info re my dad's condition from the head dr today...ohhhh dreading this sooooooo much. I start shaking just thinking about it. But it's so true about going for a long walk and doing the breathing exercises at the same time. I've always enjoyed walking, but now it's taking on a whole new meaning.. Like you said "my nose has turned into K9 special, which I now sniff anything and everything especially on cool morning walks!" That's ME too! lol! gonnadoit -- sorry hon,, cheezies alllll gone! lol.. and btw, you can't light them.. what a horrible smell it made! LMAO! Huge sigh.. forging ahead to start another day... feelings are scrambled all over the place... :( :( i'm running in circles inside my head.. just got a call from my father's wife -- he's going down fast -- his lung is bleeding just took him into emerg surgery... i really don't know if my breathing exercises are gonna work this time :8o: it's all never ending My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 328 Amount Saved: $144 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 5 Seconds: 5

Thank you Danielle.. I appreciate your post. And you are absolutely right.. ending my quit will only add to an already stressful situation(s) and that in itself would make me feel that much worse. My coping strategies are now ,,once again,, firmly in place and I have always come here for the support and the advice of so many of the most empathetic and direct people I have ever met. But as I said in my post under "cravings".. I just won't allow the stress(es) to trigger a fail.. i've come too far and it's in my best interest, on a variety of levels to not let it spin me into a frenzy any longer. This quit in the past 16 days is teaching me a lot about myself, my need for taking care of me, not putting me on the back burner and that life is filled with so many uncertainties and a cig is not going to make it easier to deal with.. Thanks again.. You're a GEM! ;) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 333 Amount Saved: $144 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 33 Seconds: 8

I have ended this particular thread.. and posted under "Cravings" with the thread "I am ending the stress cycle now!" my nerves cannot get the better of me... if they do I'm sure to fail and I will not fail..
