What was your Worst Ever Smoking Moment?

I'm so embarressed to say this now...I can't believe I actually did this. I would pay my kid's to pick up the cigerette butts in the yard......OMG, how disgusting is that. I was "too busy" doing other chores (with cig breaks) to do it myself, and since I didn't own an ashtry, and sometimes the pot full of dirt on the front porch was full of cigs and I didn't want to start a fire, so I would just toss them out into the yard. Well with smoking a pack a day, they would accumulate. I can't believe I did that. Oh, and yes, the occasional young child that fly's past you bumping into your cig your holding in your hand and they get burned (not scarred). What was I thinking!!!! No more of this nonsense. Holding on to my 6 week quit with everything I own! Ros, My main experience of bad smoke damage is probably to myself. Self-inflicted, but no more! Worst moment - lighting the very first one. I was a closet smoker and didn't smoke in the house, the car or around people outside of family. Even at work, I would sneak in the smoking. I drove 45 minutes to and from work each day. I would typically pull behind a shopping center and have a smoke, then be on my way. One day it was raining so I couldn't just pull over and hide. I had a brand new car and didn't want it to smell like smoke. My junkie mind reasoned that the "new car" smell would overwhelm just one cigarette so I cracked the window and got my fix. When I was finished I threw the butt out of the window (I thought). At the next stop light, I saw smoke in my review mirror. That nasty butt had blown into the back seat of my brand new car, burned a hole in the seat and set a church program on fire! The program was in flames. I got out and removed it from the car to realize the big cigarette burn in the back seat. I promptly moved the car seat to that side of the car to hide the burn. How shameful! I think most of us will have had some "nightmare moments" that we remember from our smoking days. I know I've had my fair share, but I'm interested to know your worst. This was mine: It was in 2000, I came home to see two fire engines outside my house. As my husband came towards my car, my only thought was "My God, surely I haven't set fire to the house?" When he told me the fire had been caused by faulty electrics on a dehumidifier unit, I almost cried with relief - even though the house was badly smoke damaged. We spent 14 months in a mobile home (trailer) while the house was refurbished. I have no idea how I would have coped with the guilt if the fire had been caused by a cigarette. :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/16/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 733 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,465 Amount Saved: 4398 Life Gained: Days: 95 Hrs: 21 Mins: 30 Seconds: 43
