Guess this is where I belong now, consumed with how to NOT smoke ?

Thanks Pam, Interestng and N2K. I've found my home. I mistaking posted on the Craving board again! LOL on searching Missy out N2K. Thanks for explaining the differences Pam. This is even worth being late for work for. I feel really good. I'm sure I'll feel craving and not too good too but I want to keep a positive frame of mind, not a negative one. Negative will pull me back to smoking. I've never gone 24 hours in 30 years. Interesting, I couldn't agree with you more on being here to get through this initial hump. I wish I could stay again today. I'll lurk from work. N2K hope you got the kid and cat out of the bath! That's where mine is (within a few feet as she's only 4). I'm going to give her the biggest hug and kiss and tell her how much love her. I posted this on the craving board and a very nice person directed me here. As you can see I'm here all day, a newbie who has been gobbling up the information and support here. I assume my posting will calm down when I get past 24 hours so thanks for bearing with my prolific posting today. This is my question and then I have about 3 hours I see to read all the guidance you long term non smokers have for us newbies. What a great day. I've been here almost all day reading and I just want to see if anyone out there was consumed with the thoughts of how to NOT smoke day 1, dreaming into 3 months, etc., etc. That's all I've done today, though I started this journey on December 24th. This is my real day one though. Also, if anyone can guide me, I'm not sure which board to post on. The craving and withdrawal boards seems quite similar to me. Is this a post that belongs on the withdrawal board? Thanks in advance. N2K, I know, I just read and re-read it! You're so kind and thoughtful for that amazingly in-depth reply. I will stay still now and figure out the workings of the board. Tomorrow is a work day so I won't get much time here, I'm trying to suck in as much of your suppport as I can to get me through until I can get back to lurk. I have to get my poor kid to bed now, I'm that consumed, but I'm here to stay, I just don't know where yet ;). YES! I was obsessed, especiallly the first couple of days, but it was "positive obsession". It started getting on my nerves, and I posted the same question! Was driving myself nuts! I too sat here a lot the first two days, but you know what? I think it helped more than I'll ever know. It gave it all a new and wonderful perspective. From... another obsesser (is that even a word?), who used to smoke! N2k, I LOVED your post on the other thread about the number of times the habit has been reinforced!!! I've been on this site for over a year and a half and I've NEVER thought about it in those terms before! Learn something new everyday! Freedom, Congratulations on quitting!!! Don't worry a bit about posting too much, especially on your first day! If you look at many of the people's number of posts here, you will see many in the thousands! I left the site and rejoined in July, but when I left, I had over 3,300 posts in one year! And the scary thing is that there are MANY people who had WAY more than that (I think Lady holds the record for the most posts, if I'm not mistaken - and many of them have been spent by giving others great advice! :) ) So don't worry at all about posting too much! That's definitely the way to a successful quit! Spend as much time as possible here learning about this addiction and what it can do to you and what you can do to keep from smoking. Arm yourself with knowledge here. There's plenty of it here at your disposal. To answer your question about the difference between withdrawal symptoms and cravings, I too was confused by the difference at first. The withdrawal symptoms forum is more for physical symptoms you might ezperience due to quitting (e.g. acne, mood swings, irritability, excess gas, etc... pretty much everything except weight gain, which gets its own forum.) The cravings forum is more for dealing with the urges to smoke. But if you post in the wrong forum, don't worry. The "forum police" aren't going to come arrest you for posting in the wrong place! We'll respond just the same and help you out as much as we can. And like N2k said, if you're not sure of where to post, the Forum for New Users and General Discussion is a good place to go. Just about everything fits into that category. Congrats again on your first day! Crave the Quit! Congrats on quitting! :) I joined the club about a week before finally quitting, and basically lived on the site for the first days - it really helps with motivation and all. I'm a successful non-smoker for a solid nine months now :) For motivation, I used the money I spent in the past to buy cigs, to buy myself something nice - to prove myself I'm better off. I bought myself a bedroom suite, which I will be paying the last installment in this month - so I can choose something new! Motivate yourself by seeing how much you save each day, whether it's on something like a duvet or a handbag or a lounge suite or money in a glass jar. And stay strong - you can do it!
