Interesting (and effective) coping mechanism

Whatever it takes!!! Just remember when the pool is over the demon will always lurk in the back of your mind and will show his Ugly face when you least expect it. Stay strong and keep tight to your quit. Your doing great! Wendi p.s. My daughter and son are my spies. They yell at the top of their lungs if they think I am smoking. I just discovered a new way to cope with cravings. I discovered to other folks in my office that became quitters on New Year's day. We decided we would encourage each other. Word got around the office Tuesday that we were all quitting and we arrived today to discover that an office pool had been setup based on which one of us would crack first. Now I have "spies" following me on breaks and out to my car! It is actually pretty cool, it is REALLY keeping me honest. Today was a tough day for cravings but I new that if I gave in, the news would spread like wildfire. What's funny is I know that it isn't out of desire to see me succeed but out of the sick desire to see me fail. That makes me want to stick it to them even more so. New Papa: You are doing SO well! Congratulate yourself! Your humor will get you through a lot of tough spots. I love this little extra motivation you now have. I'd bet that a number of those in the pool are smokers themselves. Remember when a smoking friend or co-worker announced they were quitting smoking? We were oddly upset by the news, because it meant they were smart (therefore we were dumb) and were fleeing the rapidly sinking ship, leaving us to fend for ourselves. Sick, isn't it? Well, we're (finally) on the right side now and we intend to stay there. Let them laugh and wish us ill. We don't care. You keep going, Papa! Great motivational technique to stay quit. One piece of advice, please do not forget your reasons for quitting, those are very important to keep you quit, once the office pool is over and someone else (other than yourself) is quit. But I really really like the office pool idea. That's great! I had a sick co-worker with the same attitude (he's a chain-smoker). He owes me a steak dinner when I hit a year and I intend to hold the SOB to it! LOL At a gag store I found a fake cigarrette that actually looks real. I got him a few times with it... However, I had to throw it away because it really was quite a trigger after awhile..... :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 118 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,931 Amount Saved: $944 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 13 Mins: 32 Seconds: 38
