I WANT TO QUIT BUT I NOT SURE I HAVE THE COURAGE

17 years ago 0 3368 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Bama & Welcome to the SSC. Everyone here has felt the 'fear' of quitting before they got started down this road. So know that you are not alone. You are surrounded by people that understand. My best advice I can give you regarding fear/needing courage is for you to ACT the way you WANT to FEEL. You can do this. Don't think about doing it. The junkie thinking will jump in trying to scare you. Don't believe the lies: the fear of failure. Just do it. Remember: ACT the way you WANT to FEEL. Bama, Been there right where you are now. I wanted to quit for years but June 7th was my quit day. My husband and I did it together. My husband gave in and said it wasn't for him and is still smoking. I actually didn't think I had the courage to quit but its not really courage. It comes down to "choice". I CHOOSE to not smoke. I have control over that now. I love that I took back control of what I put into my body. It was a difficult and bumpy ride for me but it is so worth it. Please stay in touch. Hugs to you Kim My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 139 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,484 Amount Saved: $562.95 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 6 Mins: 48 Seconds: 8

Hi bama - You can get a great deal of different opinions here, as we are all different... And I would like to say to you that it doesn't necessarily take courage... It DOES take commitment, focus, self-confidence... It takes a stronger desire to quit that you have to smoke... Quitting is a choice... a challenging one, and a choice :) Blessings and Light- Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 232 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,151 Amount Saved: $1078.8 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 4 Mins: 47 Seconds: 2

Hi Bama I can hear your nervousness about quitting but you are among a community of people here who prove it is possible. I am on day 10 and I'm just taking it 1 day at a time. The courage you need will come from within and we are all here to support you. Just go for it- do it for just one day. Confidence will grow as time goes on. We are here for you - all you need to do is be there for yourself. We are behind you 100% and I wish you freedom from the weed. All the very best. Bama, It takes a lot of courage to quit! To begin the quit journey is the hardest part. I didn't think I had the courage either. I couldn't even go more than a couple of hours without smoking before I quit. I started getting jittery, cranky, antsy, and started losing my mind if I had to wait more than an hour or so to smoke. One thing I can tell you is that if you just take that first step and don't light the next cigarette, you will realize that you have more courage than you think you do. So many, many, many of us didn't think we had that courage either! There are a lot of us that just stepped out in an effort to give it a try. Personally, I counted each hour that I was smoke free. Each time I thought of smoking, I reminded myself of how many hours it had been and told myself I didn't want to start over. I have been quit for over 15 months and I can honestly tell you, it was worth every bit of agony I experienced in the beginning. Accept the fact that you are addicted to the cigarettes. With each moment of anxiety that accompanies the withdrawal period, remind yourself that every day, hour, minute, is one step closer to never feeling this way again. You can do it Bama. You will not regret it. Please find that courage. You've come this far. Take just one more step and get rid of the cigarettes. You will be so glad you did. Hi bama, In the menu to your left, you'll see several links. Explore them all and start working on the free workbook/program. This will really help you get started. I guess most all of us have felt that fear...although once I got the ball rolling, I saw that there wasn't any reason to feel that way so don't worry about that part... it goes away. You're definitely at the right place! Just ask when you have questions and somebody will be glad to help you. Btw, Roll Tide! Hey bama! You CAN do it the same way we all did - one step at a time. Don't be overwhelmed, it seems like an impossible task but really it happens one minute, one hour and one cigarette at a time. Make sure you check out the Quit Program Tools on the left and they will give you great ideas on what to expect and how to prepare. There is a lot of wisdom on this website and lots of people that will be going through this with you. Preparation + Positive Attitude + Support = Success!
