Hello Everyone.... I've decided to quit. Prior to stumbling upon this website, I thought it was too late to quit. I have been coughing up brown phelgm and blood but my doctor tells me my xrays are fine. How can they be? I am off to the doctors again this week for another xray and another prescription of zyban. Thanks for all the positive experiences I have read on this site - it has made me realize that perhaps it isn't too late and what I am experiencing is my body's way of telling me it is time. I'm terrified about impending chest x-ray but at least now I feel a glimmer of hope. Thanks.

thanks Rusty. I am determined to work it out this time. I am confident I will succeed because I relize I am getting very angry at myself when I have reached for a cigarette. I know it's not going to be easy and of course I have stresses in my life that will tempt me. This may sound corny, but with positive thinking, positive actions and this support group, it feels easier taking these first steps.

HI BOO, I AM SO GLAD YOU HAVE DECIDED TO QUIT! I HAD A TERRIBLE CHEST FULL OF PHLEM THAT WOULD'T GO AWAY. WHEN I WOULD GET A COLD IT WOULD LAST WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER. I HAD BRONCHITIS ALL THE TIME. NOW I FEEL GREAT. MY COUGH IS GONE & NO MORE COUGING UP PHLEM. THINK OF ALL THE POSITIVES THAT COME OUT OF QUITTING. I PRAY YOUR TEST RESULTS COME OUT OKAY. BUT YES, I AGREE, THIS IS A SIGN FOR YOU TO START TAKING BETTER CARE OF YOURSELF! YOU CAN DO IT. STAY WITH THIS PROGRAM, ITS GREAT, THE PEOPLE IN HERE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT AND THEY ALL CARE! HOPE TO SEE YOU IN HERE ALOT, PEPPERMINT My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 374 Amount Saved: $41.4 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 4 Mins: 8 Seconds: 46

Boo, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to kick the habit! It's never too late and you've come to the right place for help. Preparation is key so be sure to start working through our online quit program. Start thinking about your routine. When do you smoke? Why? Figure out what your triggers are and come up with a plan to get around them. Start thinking about how you will change your daily routine. You use to have coffee and a cigarette. Now you'll have coffee and read the paper? The best part of your quit? Your reward system! In general, it should have three components: a reward for overcoming every craving, one for every smoke free day accomplished and another for every week and milestone you acheive. The rewards can be as simple sleeping in an extra ten minutes, a piece of candy or as huge as a vacation, new car. It's your decision, start dreaming up the possibilities! The key thing to remember is that they must be important enough that you'll be willing to work towards it! Lastly, keep reading through the forums and compose a list of distractions and coping mechanisms for cravings. If you need any suggestions, we're always here to help. We hope that your second set of x-rays turn out well. Until then, we will be sending good thoughts your way. Keep us posted, we can't wait to celebrate your first smoke free day! Welcome aboard! Welcome, Boo! This is a truly great site filled with support. Many of us quit smoking because of health issues or the fear of health issues. I'm sure hoping that your test results come back normal and that you can proceed in your quit without fear. And when they do? Don't use that as permission to carry on with smoking. Every day that you smoke takes you that much closer to bad news. Make the commitment to begin working on a healthier and longer life! Hello Boo, I already love Your attitude, And Welcome to Your new home, for this is where the Smokers come to become Quitters, and Boo, it really works, For my 3 1/2 years without a cigerette touching my lips proves that, Just have a good Positive Attitude and maybe 2 good Motivations to carry You past the Cravings every so often, I usually tell Everyone to Grit Your teeth, and get the Eye of the Tiger for at least the first 2 months, and by that time, You will have seen the light at the end of the tunnel, O'Yeow, And do use the zyban, Yes, It might taste a little Yackey when You first start on them, but don't pay no mind, its still better then smokeing Boo, So stay close to this website, for this is Your support comes from, I will be in Your corner, So go get-um Tiger, Its Your journey, Smokeless In Oklahoma :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/10/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1260 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 37,819 Amount Saved: $5392.8 Life Gained: Days: 297 Hrs: 23 Mins: 15 Seconds: 0
