Bravo!! You must be strong for your own quit and nobody else's. When he is ready he will join you. Keep that slayer handy for any future impulses and WAY TO GO!! That must be tough. My husband and I quit together May 23, 2006. Day before yesterday he celebrated 5 months. I slipped and smoked for awhile before committing again to quitting. He knew I slipped and I am sure it was quite a temptation for him...especially since I was the one really pushing at a 'joint' quit. I snuck around outside of the house and in the car to steal a 'smoke'. It never tasted as good as I remembered it, I smelled bad and was always trying to cover the smell up. Perhaps he will re-join you. He had a 30 day taste of smoke-free living...In any event, KEEP YOUR QUIT STRONG! Demand that he be sensitive to your quit-no smoking in the house or car and no smoking in your presence. Pray for him :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,377 Amount Saved: $376 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 21 Mins: 24 Seconds: 17

Way to go Moqueen. My husband put them down when I tried to quit a few years ago and had not picked them up. He has seen me struggle to quit. He never judge me, he just loved me. Our quits are our own. Your son will be back. Stay strong and let him know it works. What an example you are for him. Hi Moqueen, When I read this today (sorry I am late), it brought back some memories of my quit. Here is the post that I did when I realized my husband was back smoking. Please read it, and read all of the responses. I just re-read them, and they were so heart-felt! I am just happy that your son saw the light and came to his senses. Congratulations on getting through one hump in your quit! See, if you look at it as a positive thing that happened, you will get over the humps in your quit and in life with a quaint smile on your face!!! All the best to you and your son! Keep up the GREAT work! ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 236 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,095 Amount Saved: $771.72 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 0 Mins: 44 Seconds: 40

That is brilliant news Moqueen and I'm sure that your resolve to stay quit while he smoked helped him to try again. I imagine if you had also smoked then he might have been less inclined to give it another go. Good for you guys - I'm really pleased for you both. Moqueen My hat is off to you - that took strength and resolve and you stood up to that nicodemon and showed him good. What a wonderful example you are showing your son. He may choose to smoke at the moment but you are actively demonstrating that he can choose differently. What a fantastic gift from parent to child!!! Way to go ;) Keep going Sharon My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 117 Amount Saved: 29.59 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 37 Seconds: 49

I know what that feels like. My sister, mother and husband all quit before my dad and I. We were the last two smokers in the family. Then out of nowhere, dad quit! I honestly didn't think my dad COULD quit, so that event sort of pushed me off high center to begin 'trying to quit' again. Long story short: I found the SSC online and eventually I quit too. Then dad relapsed. It really bothered me at first. It made me think "I might relapse" since it happened to him. However, I only had that thought for about 3 seconds and then I realized that's junkie thinking and I AM NOT GOING TO RELAPSE. I believe (only speaking for myself here) once we get far enough into our quits there is no such thing as 'accidentally slipping or relapsing'. After a certain point it's a 'decision'- it's a 'choice' to smoke again. For me, smoking is no longer an option. The smoke thoughts no longer nag me and I'm not going to do anything foolish to cause them to come back. Nope, I kinda like the peace of mind. ;) So just hang in there MoQueen :) And try not to lose any patience with your son. Just be a good example: Show him 'staying quit' is the key to 'quitting getting easier and enjoyable'.
