Zac, its really hard when your at a bar the social aspect of smoking is just way too tempting especially when your round smokers - I think its a mental thing and its so easy to give in to temptation especially when you think its just one ciggarrette but then that turns into 5 whithn half an hour!! I guess your girfriend feels guilty for smoking hence offering you one is like redemption!! stay strong!!! :) :)

Hi Steve, Weekend's were/are still my hardest times, I enjoy a glass of wine, and once I quit, the wine tasted too sweet, obviously !!? because it's not the same as how it tasted if I have a cigarette with it, obviously !!? I will now have too quit drinking, social life will become non existent, I may as well not go anywhere on the weekend, just go to bed early and get the weekend over and done with as quickly as possible. Yes, this is how I felt, it was awful, and it was all 'excuses' ...but it has been nearly 8 week's since I quit, and Steve, the weekend's do get better, you can drink without smoking - there are no little hint's or tip's I can give you unfortunately. Just believe in yourself, you are better than smoking...don't let something that doesn't have an "IQ" control you...YOU be in control. Maybe you and your girlfriend can quit together? Good luck, and DO have a great weekend. Jules :)

Hey Zackery, I think that not drinking for a while may just have to be one of those things you commit to until you have your smoking quit under your breath. I know how it feels to want to go out and have drinks with your friends of a weekend, but to be 100% truthful it's really not that good for you either... I quit drinking on my last attempt at quitting... So I can now happily go to a bar and drink soft drinks all night... With regards to your G/F giving you ciggies, well I wold have a talk to her and ask her if she really cares about you not to offer you a smoke, no matter how desperate you get.. My partner smokes and I made him promise... He has held to it really well.... Unfortunately this is all the advice I can give... I'm not going to be all nice here, The voice in your head is the addict in you talking.. If you really want to quit smoking you will do whatever it takes to do so... If you want to quit, quit... Hi Zackery Yes I contiuned to drink while quiting and if you think that is odd, I actually drank more. I found that the alcohol help kill the pain. However I put the patch on. Have you tried that? Hey Zac, Have a chat with some of the other members about quitting while drinking. I dont drink so i dont know how you are feeling - sorry. i also dont have a partner that smokes either so not sure how to tackle that one either but there have been a few posts in regards to this over the past week which may be of help. I will say however, off course your girlfriend is going to keep giving them to you. She is a smoker, she doesnt want to be left out in the cold!! (thats my point of view) YOU have to want the quit Zac. There is plenty of support here if you need it. I have bought two packs of cigarettes in the past two and a half weeks. I can't seem to break the habit. I seem to have trouble not smoking when I drink. Has anyone had success not smoking when they drink? I really want to quit and find positives when I don't smoke. The air smells fresh, the stigma of being a smoker goes away, and I feel better about myself. But when I drink it all comes back to me. I can't quit drinking at the same time. I'm not an alcoholic, but I can't not drink on the weekend right now. We're coming up on another weekend and I will go to the bar with friends and a date. My current girlfriend smokes and I don't want to dump her, but she is always willing to give me a cigarett in a second if I need one. I worry about this upcoming weekend and don't know what I am going to do after I've had a few beers. Are there any tricks I should know about? I almost wish I could go to a no smoking rehab vacation like drug addicts, but they don't exist. I could really use some help. I wrote to the evil corporation of Phillip Morris suggesting they make a less addictive cigarette, but they just suggested that I look into smoke cessation practices. I think they could do more. - Steve

Hi Buddy, This is where you need strength-you should tell your girlfriend not to offer you one at any time during your quit and make her promise and think, if I have one puff, how will I really feel? Pity those that smoke and be so proud your a non-smoker. Take pride in telling them, " I dont smoke, but thanks anyway" I am back on day one after 4 weeks nearly-I was so gutted that I was weak and Ive wasted all that time-but after reading that book, I`m inspired! Also I have to say it's an awesome feeling to know that you have conquered this challenge... it wasn't until I was able to have some drinks without smoking that I considered myself a non-smoker. It's a great feeling. You can do it too tim My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 73 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,106 Amount Saved: $580.35 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 13 Mins: 28 Seconds: 39

Hey Steve, i know exactly how you feel.... Alcohol is a good and healthy part of my social life but we know how it can lead to bad judgment. I was worried I would slip. Anyway I just was committed to not smoking and it really wasn't as big of a problem as I thought it would be. It helps that here in new york smoking is banned in all bars and restaurants, and it helps that many of my friends don't smoke and supported my decision to stop. I was also prepared, bringing toothpicks with me to the bar in case I got antsy, but I didn't really. Strangely enough I've found that I drink less now that I don't smoke and realize I was just on a smoking-cuz-i'm-drinking, drinking-cuz-i'm-smoking mindless cycle. And the hangovers I had before were as much from the smoking as from the drinking...they are a lot lighter now. Anyway that's my experience take it for what it is, I think the most important thing is to just be confident and resolute that you are a non smoker, and use your strength and will power if any temptation comes up. Also keep remembering how nasty smoking is.
