Just How Many Cancer Sticks Did You Use to Smoke Each Day

A friend of mine's father was a heavy smoker and was diagnosed with emphysemia (approx 8 years ago now) and they suggested he keep smoking as by doing this his lungs were getting more oxygen than they would be by him not smoking!! Go figure. He eventually passed at the age of 78. I couldnt beleive it either but maybe their theory is true? who knows - im not prepared to find out thats for sure! PrincessC :) x

Im 34, i started smoking at the age of 20. My bestfriend, my cousin and my sister were all smokers I thought they were so cool and off course....i just wanted to fit in. I remember the first drag i ever had... it was disgusting but i still lit another one. I never really had much money to buy cigarettes back then so i didnt really smoke more than 5 a day. I gave up for 3 years, i hated the smell, the taste, everything about it. I really really hated it - i was adicted. I knew i could give up, in total i would have smoked around 1 pack in january. I was on vacation. I dont remember much about the morning of my quit except that i knew my quit was close.... real close. I had bought a pack the night before and didnt smoke until after i had showered and was ready for work. My second smoke the day i quit was as i was driving into the parking lot at work. That was it. I handed my pack to a fellow non smoker workmate and said no matter what.... NO MATTER what, just dont give them to me. I was a mess lol. Maybe not a good time to quit when you are at work haha :) I ranted, raved kicked screamed, sweated, begged & pleaded. He said sure here have a smoke. I would say no its ok, i dont want one. I knew this was it. This is my second chance at life. The way i see it, i was at a fork in the road..... i chose the road less travelled and here i am today. 24 DAYS WOOOOOO HOOOOO. I am so proud of me. :) PrincessC :) x My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 557 Amount Saved: $244.8 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 22 Mins: 48 Seconds: 1

Well after reading all of the posts on how much people smoked I really feel like a newbie! I started smoking at 12 only 2 cigs a day, or whenever I could steal or get them off people. I used to steal from my dad's pack all the time he would never notice. See I couldn't buy them cuz you had to be 18. I would go days without a cig then one of my friends had a pack or shared one with me. Anyway once I turned 18 and could buy them I only smoked 7 a day at most and 3 on less stressful days. A pack lasted me about 4 days. I might smoke 10 on the weekends but that was the extent. So now I am 27, so I guess I smoked for 15 yrs. I decided to quit because I was tired of being tired. I wanted energy and knew that the cigs where contributing to my LACK of it. So here I am. Fighting the good fight! I smoked 2+ packs a day so I averaged it at 45 a day for my meter. Thank God I don't smoke anymore! I never really stopped to think about all those dollars gone up in flames till I started this program and could see my quit meter. Here goes my story...uggggh. I started at the ripe young age of 13 and never stopped. I was smoking at least 1 to 1 1/2 packs per day. I am now 44 and wanting to be free of that slave. I have tried to quit a few times and always failed and that was my biggest fear (well and the weight thing) this time....no one likes to fail. Anyway about 8 months ago I started cutting myself back and since I am anal retentive person I was able to stick with this. I picked a quit date and was down to 10 or less cigarettes a day. I think the cutting back helped because when I wanted one and it wasn't time I had to come up with something else to do. We (my husband and I are quitting together)are on the patch, we started with the 14 mg because of what I had cut down to and stayed on that for 6 weeks, we are now on week one of the 7 mg and will do 2 weeks of it and then no more. We will be using Wellbutron starting next week just to give me the added confidence when I go off the patch....No failing here this time....I am loving being free. Congrats to all of us that have made this wonderful decision in our lives. Long and happy lives to all of us. Hello nonsmoking new-found friends! I used to smoke a pack a day, sometimes more if I was bowling or out with friends in a bar, once I remember smoking 2 packs - my daily pack plus another while out!! I was NEVER going to quit smoking and have never tried to quit, and have found that it is much easier than I thought! I have my days when I'm stressing about something - whether it's work or the family, but haven't given in. And I find it hard to believe that I have gone as long as I have without smoking!! I think also that I wished I would have quit sooner, being a smoker for 22+ years, I used to smoke in high school, then quit when I got married and had kids, as my husband didn't (doesn't smoke), but then I started when I went to work, and started smoking not very many, but as my workload got heavier and family got busier, I was smoking more and more. I think I was always afraid to quit, afraid of being a failure. And to keep on track I use ALOT of self talk, TRY to eat healthy snacks - course like everyone else have gained about 15-20 pounds, but it's ok, I'll work on getting that off!! Like everyone else, I can only deal with one life changing habit at a time! Ok, thats all! I love this site also - it has been very helpful! To all - keep up the good work!! I've smoked 25 cigs a day for almost 35 years....I quit cold turkey and since I did that I feel so good that I don't understand why I smoked for so many years.....lol. For me it wasn't hard to quit at all, no cravings, no withdrawal symptoms. I think it's all in the mind. :)FINI :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 122 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,052 Amount Saved: 359.9 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 19 Mins: 8 Seconds: 26

Great Post, The one day that made me quit was when I was working on a Saturday in Rosies Bar, I bought a full sleeve(200) of Cigaretes at 8am off a friend as they was cheap. At 1am I was locking up and remembered I threw my empty packet away 10 mins previous. I went to my "sleeve" and I was on my 5th pack for the day. Had I really smoked 80? I felt sick but still opened the 5th pack and drove home near enough in tears. Am I THAT hooked?????? That was it!! I went to the docs and got Zyban as I had tried everything else. The 7 days on Zyban I had cut down dramatically and quit 2 days before my quit date. Now I was doing so well till my Holiday and I`m now struggling again. I have started a new batch of Zyban and I am now on my way to recovery. I am not giving up quitting. If it kills me I will quit.lol.
