I haven't had, nor do I know of anyone, who has become addicted from being around second hand smoke. I think it is cool to avoid smoke at all costs. Pollution is bad for you. My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 965 Amount Saved: $177.6 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 56 Seconds: 40

How do you are the woman know that the daughter is going through physical withdrawal. All types of mental/emotional things happen when people quit smoking. My old boss, a man that was like a father figure to me, died of complications of lung cancer and COPD at an early 73 years old. He was a light smoker when young but quit in his mid 30's. My actual biological father quit smoking in his late 30's and died of complications of diabetes at 72 years old. It's because of cases like those, and the one with Alan Carr here that I had to find other reasons to quit smoking than "for your health", and luckily I found them. Like, for example, to be in control of my life. Mr Carr beleives that he would have died 20 years ago had he not quit, and that's really nice for him to hold onto, but there's no way at all to prove it. Maybe he wouldn't have cancer now if he was still smoking... there's really no way at all of knowing, and this is exactly why I just don't buy the whole extend your life expenctancy. Statistics on smokers don't include other risk factors like the inability to cope with stress, or a poor diet, and therfore the stats are simply just made up numbers, and nobody can offer me proof that they lived longer because they quit. There's a lot of hype involved in smoking and stopping smoking. There's also a lot of politics involved. People trying to get you to quit because they have a political agenda that is the oposite of what the tobacco companies want. The government deciding it's bad for you so that they are justified in taxing the heck out of smokers and getting rich on them. The drug companies wanting you to quit and using their products to do it. Face it guys.. many people have gotten rich off of us, our adiction, and the lies we've been told about it. <-- That alone is reason enough to quit, but I still don't buy all the hype. Alan Carr quit 100 a day when 50, my boss quit 15 a day when 30, and I quit 55 a day when 37. If i'm going to get lung cancer, then i'm going to get lung cancer. Oh yeah... My baby went through withdrawals really badly. he didn't have to cure the habbit part of anything, and his body doesn't know that haivng a cigarette will make him feel better, but he had all the symptoms that I did. Now, I grew up in a non smoking home.. but it was during the 70's and 80's when people smoked even in the grocery store. I was adicted before I took my first puff on my own. I can remember being 13 and tearing the house up looking for something to smoke.. I also think that it takes a certain kind of gene or chemical make up or whatever to be that adicted off of second hand smoke, and I still don't buy all of the propaganda, but these are my personal experiences. I avoid smoke at all cost now.. i'm afraid of it.. because i'm afraid of going through withdrawlas again because of being exposed. Bump for Misty moon. It's very sad for mister Carr, I didn't hear of him before I came on this site. I've heard great things about him since, I'm sure that his books will continue to spread his good work as so many people will remember him . Im saddened by the news, i just read the article at the bbc about our buddy Allen Carr, wether you used his method or not, he revolutionized the way we approach our QUIT, by dispelling MYTHS, LIES, and the ADDICT JUNKIE THINKING, i enjoyed his humor, for me it made me realize as addicts we are all the same.... and how sheer evil TOBACCO Companys are... they should all be sued for false advertizing... jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 673 Amount Saved: $242.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 11 Mins: 32 Seconds: 33

I never finished reading his book, but from what I did read, I really liked his attitude. I have heard so many attribute their quits to him or his books. I'm sorry to hear that ol' Nicodemon ended up claiming him after all.
