Second hand smoke...?

18 years ago 0 1128 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
lol o dear (am stayin right here behind this big ol' oak tree) can the real mistymoon step out now!! :) Hun you smoked 3 packs a day right? Firstly, everyone's quit is different. I remember praying for the days to pass so i didnt feel the withdrawls anymore, i learnt to ride the crave wave (thank you for teaching me that healer, you are a wonderful caring lady friend). Everything you have described are withdrawls hun. I know you are hurting and i know you are scared, i also got the prickly feeling too and it scared the by joes out of me, but when i quietened my mind and relaxed i knew it was my body healing, your body is getting more oxygen now hun. This feeling will pass - honest it will. I also had the kidney infection for just over a week, it was only mild but no matter what i had to try "fix" it nothing worked so i just embraced it and it too passed. I know you can feel when you are just about to explode so when you get that feeling try step back take a few deep breaths and relax. Remember its all a mind game from here on in hun, you tell that nicodemon there is no room in your life for him anymore and tell him no matter how hard he tries you aint fallin for it. Read as much as you can, "knowlege really IS power" the more you know about what you are experiencing the easier it is hun. Honest it is. Is it safe to come out yet :8o: lol rant, rave, kick scream throw things post do what ever you want but as Marie says, just dont smoke, its bad for you :) (lol i love that saying) i promise you it DOES get easier and this too WILL pass. love PrincessC :) x My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 508 Amount Saved: $224.4 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 39 Seconds: 4

Blue ribbon for you Misty, you passed with flying colours, you didn't touch it, just smelled it, of course you probably inhaled just enough nicotine to give you a buss hence the symptoms this am. Now you know this can happen, stay far far away from cigarette smoke until you feel you are no longer threatened. Congrats :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 713 Amount Saved: $188 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 6 Mins: 21 Seconds: 17

I can be around smoke now and not crave. In the beginning I couldn't though. In the beginning I would want a cigarette if I smelled them. Now the smell makes me want to puke. The smell really is disgusting. I'm so glad I don't smell like a smokestack anymore. You didn't do a thing wrong Mistymoon. If the smoke/smell bothers you ... avoid it at all costs. This is how I feel about secondhand smoke: LOL! MistyMoon, Wow! So proud to see you staying strong through these past couple of days. If your symptoms persist or worsen please go see your doctor to rule out other possibilities. Are you using an NRT? Keep taking good care of yourself and rewarding yourself generously for overcoming temptation. Some members have also found it helpful to keep a journal. Keep persevering, Danielle ___________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hey Mistie, Some things that may explain your symptoms My theories revolve around the natural hormones produced by the body. Something that has evolved over millions of years. It is something we cannot override. What you have to understand is that by smoking you have introduced an alien substance into a very delicate hormonal balance that can affect moods, body temperature, hunger, thirst, sleep, weight. All the things that we associate with quitting smoking. If you have smoked for any period your body will have to adapt to cope with these inbalances. When you quit your body does the same, it tries to compensate and control the hormones and chemicals. Not easy when you have used smoking as an emotional answer to just about everything. However once the process is explained it should take away the main cause of relapse. Fear. Fear of the unknown. with amy irrational feelings the not knowing is the hardest part. Below I have tried to explain what happens to your body when you are trying to recover from the effects of years of smoking. It is not as simple as just not smoking it is getting in tune with your body and understanding what is happening to it now. next week and next year. when you smoke there is a two stage action that takes place. It is hard to know where to start though. It is like the chicken and the egg. Take last week for instance, or maybe the last week you were a smoker. There will have been a cycle happening in your body that will have been dictated by two events. One would have been the feeling that you had to smoke and the other will have been the act of smoking. The feeling you had when you wanted a cigarette will have been caused by the increase in production of a hormone called cortisol. I now believe that this is in direct relation to inflammation in the stomach / intestinal and respatory tracts. The adrenal gland that produces cortisol reacts the same way to stress and inflamation. It pumps excessive amounts of cortisol into your system that sets off a chain reaction. It ignites the survival response, it mobilizes your body and imune system to full alert. You have no choice but to react. You cannot ignore this primitive response. Through conditioning and a miunderstanding you have learnt that by smoking a cigarette you can switch

I don't understand Misty, Why do you need your husbands permission to take a bath???? These feelings are so hard to deal with at times. Early in my quit, I just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear; but life went on anyway...one smoke free day at a time. Calm yourself with a little deep breathing, maybe some mediatation, still alone for a while in a quiet room. Only do what you can do. Chores can wait one day or two. You need to take care of yourself so as to take care of your quit. Hang in there. Tomorrow you will be 2 weeks! congratulations! You have quite a way with words, Misty. And I'm so proud of you for getting through the evening. No, you did nothing wrong. Last I heard, it's okay to use the bathroom when you need to! It's perfectly normal to feel crappy after inhaling a batch of poisoned air. Be glad you're not doing it on a regular basis now! Krissie is right...go to a place where the air is clean and fresh. Do a lot of deep breathing. Drink lots of water. You'll feel lots better soon! Misty, Take some you time! Believe it or not, what you are feeling is normal and it will pass. Use your rewards and relax yourself, you deserve this. Take the time to see that you have accomplished 15 days and know that we are proud of you. Use those coping mechanisms to help you through and protect your quit at all costs. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
