Born in the USA got you through the "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and sent to old nicodemon "Blinded by the Light" traveling down "Thurnder Road" and now you still remain in "The Promise Land" of quit! AWESOME! It always amazes me at how quickly we can wind up back where we began. We must always be on guard of our quits. They are so precious and we have worked way too hard to get to where we are. It only takes one puff to go right back where we started from. N.O.P.E. is always on my mind. Really glad you made it through Shevie. Last night we had a major storm and at 9:10 PM the power went out. This is the first long-term nighttime power failure Ive experienced since I quit. In the past when wed lose power at night Becky and I would sit out on the back porch and Id smoke like a chimney just to pass the time. That association was still firmly intact. About 10:30 a major crave descended upon me. It was the worst Ive had since last August. I thought nibbling might help, but there was nothing in the house I wanted. Thought of making a store run for some nuts, but I honestly, I didnt trust myself with going to the store (first time ever!). I actually thought of just taking my drivers license and $4 (cant buy a pack for $4, no credit card, etc). Then Becky, bless her heart, said something (she has a nack for that) that triggered the thought, I need a dopamine rush! So I grabbed my MP3 player, pulled the muffling towels off the drums, and at 10:30 at night (tough s***, neighbors!) I cut loose to Born in the USA. That killed it, dead, no residue, not even the lightest urge. In my 1 year ramble I suggested the possibility of using music as a reward/coping mechanism. Well, last night I found out that, for me, it works very well. And so far I havent heard a word from the neighbors. :) Keep up the good quits, everyone. ;) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 429 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,589 Amount Saved: $1630.2 Life Gained: Days: 80 Hrs: 1 Mins: 38 Seconds: 41

You're on, Mr. Ed. :) Maybe Carpepax will bring his too and we'll do some serious rocking. Thanks, Danielle and NascarFan. I think music is my new addiction. LOL, Lady. I was surprised at how quick it hit. No junkie thoughts or any warning. At least it didn't last long. :eg: Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 429 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,593 Amount Saved: $1630.2 Life Gained: Days: 80 Hrs: 2 Mins: 15 Seconds: 55

LOL, Hurstk. I never made that connection. You are so right. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 429 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,593 Amount Saved: $1630.2 Life Gained: Days: 80 Hrs: 2 Mins: 34 Seconds: 42

Marie, don't worry. You missed the part about "since last August". That was 11 months ago. And if the storm hadn't knocked down power lines last night, there would have been nothing to post about today. :) Don't worry about a year from now, Marie. Just worry about today. If you keep taking care of today, all the tomorrows will take care of themselves. Congratulations on 43 smoke-free days, Marie. Now that's something to smile about. :) You're right, Luna. Been breezing along most of this year, almost forgetting I used to smoke except when I come here to give support. Then to get slapped with a reminder like last night is surprising and humbling. Me be addict. Me always be addict. Even when there hasn't been any sign of it for months or years. Thanks, Breaking Free and Sushik. Another one (memory association) bites the dust. Gee, that's another song! Where are my sticks? :p Keep up the good quits, everyone. There's nothing to apologize for, Marie. That's what the SSC is all about, sharing information and experiences, helping, teaching. I know what you mean, though. I've felt the same scare. :) MistyMoon, the movies were a great idea! If it had been earlier in the evening we may have done the same thing, assuming the theaters had power. Wouldn't that be freaky, to be in a movie theater when the power went out? :8o: Bet some folks would want to stay. :eg: Thanks, Dutch. I am proud of myself. Quitting smoking is the best thing I've ever done. Keep up the good quits, everyone. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 431 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,629 Amount Saved: $1637.8 Life Gained: Days: 80 Hrs: 10 Mins: 29 Seconds: 47

Whew Shevie. Close call. Well not so close cause you are an oldie who could recognize it for what it was. Still, it is humbling isn't it when it happens? Glad Becky was there to come up with such a creative idea. I have no doubt that you would have finally hit upon something, but nice to have someone jump in when you are suffering. Wish I had been around hearing you on your one year reward drums. Bashing ole nicodemon to kingdom come. Not to worry Marie. Shevie will tell you that these craves are way way different than the early ones. Some times us oldies hate to share our craves for fear of scaring the newbies. This is nothing like what you have been going through for the past 43 days. This freedom is awesome.
