Hi tryagain, So it is the smoking memories that are a downer and you did what, you puffed?? So we put them both together the puff an how you hated in and how you THOUGHT you use to like smoking. Do you thunk that nicodemon played a part in the liking part? :gasp: Don't do that again. I see 215 days what does that work out to be in months... wonder when she will realize that she's got it licked. I still get severe urges and I get them every day. Last night, I had it so bad I couldn't sleep. I had to take a couple of sleeping pills. I know that there is an end to this road. I just don't know where it is. I tried stopping the NRT, but I was faced with the very real possibility that I would fail and return to smoking unless I had something to help me through the worst of the cravings. Strangely, though, I know I am now a non-smoker. The urges are the memories of how nice it was to smoke, not actually smoking because I had a puff a few weeks ago and couldn't stand it. It opened my eyes to the fact that I am in fact a non smoker. So what are the urges, the cravings that can paralyze me. They are the memories of what was. It's like being in an abusive relationship. You hang in there remembering when it was good. Putting up with all kinds of abuse. After awhile, all you have are the memories of what you had. Once. Stickin, I didn't reply to answer your original question, I really don't analyze my quit, why I smoked all that much - it makes me think too much and bugs me. BUT I wanted to say it is so cool to read this thread, see the people I think of oldies now, back then, at the same place I am now. It gives me so much HOPE. thank you Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 117 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,170 Amount Saved: $204.75 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 4 Mins: 28 Seconds: 31

At a glance 2 out of 3 of these people remain smoke free. Read between the lines to understand how they did and are doing it. My urges aren't as severe as I thought they would be, but they are still there with a little emotional charge behind them. Emotional because I miss smoking when I'm idol and bored. I'm finding new and creative ways of filling my time and also allowing myself to be idol. It's ok to relax and watch an entire 1 hour show on TV and not jump up, and rush outside during the commercials to have a cigerette. We must learn to fill our idol time with hobbies and activities, but I believe it's also important to learn how to relax. Curl up on the couch with a blanket (that doesn't smell like smoke), and sit back and enjoy the quiet time. Sometimes life is about the small pleasures, and sometimes we forget that. Helpful thread -- really helpful. Came as close as I've ever come to giving up the quit today -- I know (from this board) that week 3 can be a killer only because we have no fight left in us after the first two -- but I'm also so insanely annoyed at everything, especially myself for even considering "that just one" ha ha ha I'm sure I'll get through it, but getting there is most definitely NOT half the fun.
