Hello Richard and welcome! Do the preparation before you set your quit date. It will increase your odds of quiting probably 10 fold. You have to have the will and be very motivated to quit so get yourself in the mood and prep your mind. It appears that you have a really good non-smoking team ready to assist and guide you. My most difficult times were about the first two weeks. At 6 months I have no desire to light up anymore, and I think that is probably true of a lot of people. It slowly gets easier each day after the week. Ok so I can post now... Welcome Rieko007, we are so glad you are here. Everyone's quit is very different. It has been said the first week is called hell week, the second week heck week but each person reacts differently to their quit. I just know this site has been a HUGE factor in my quit being what it is today. I have a long way to go but I have come a long way too. Are you going cold turkey or using NRT? I am using NRT but everyone on here has different ways to quit. Please stay with us and let us walk with you through your quit. Hi Kiwi. I won't bash you and I'll even agree with you. It truly is in the mind, but that is the hardest part of the quit for most people. The true physical part is quick and easy. The physcological part is the part that hurts the most. I wish it was as simple to turn a switch off in our heads as if we never smoked before. Welcome Reiko007. Congrats on quitting and welcome. This place has helped me tremendously. It's not going to be easy as you will have hard times, but it does get easier and the satisfaction you'll get, is WONDERFUL. The first 2 weeks were the hardest for me. There is light at the end of the tunnel though. So just work through the Quit Program Tools to the left of your screen and read and post as much as you can. Knowledge is power. Dear Rieko007 Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking!! and welcome to SSC. For me quitting smoking has been the best decision I have ever made. As a few others said, preparation is key to a successful quit. Determination too. The first week was a lil tough, but I rewarded myself with lots of candy and good food and pampering. Anything to keep my mind off of smoking. It got much easier after that. This place certainly is intrumental to my success as well as helping me become a happy nonsmoker. NO regrets. I take it 5 minutes at a time. Its EASY to get through 5 minutes. I will never go back. Keep us posted on your progress and let us know how you are doing. Richard welcome to the Stop Smoking Centre. For me the whole thing was challenging! For me it was all a big roller coaster. I just had to stick to my commitment, to QUIT Smoking. I had to look at what I would gain, my life and my ability to breath and enjoy the world. Each time I faltered or wavered I would come here and read and if I needed, I would shout out for support and some cheers. So, welcome. Use all of the useful tools in this site and you can do this. Post often and read all the great posts on this site. Stopping smoking is damn easy. I recommend you read Allen Carr's ' Easy way to stop smoking' & see what i mean. believe me it aint that hard, there is a lot of product swamping the market, this is to damn confusing for a quitter. i tell you this... the addiction is an extremely minor part of the quitting.... i t s a l l i n t h e m i n d ... i'm going to be bashed for telling you this, but hey.. it's the truth !
