Picking Up A Few More Pieces Part 4

18 years ago 0 2614 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
So I went to my first stop smoking group today. I was surprised and I felt better about myself when I left. The courage to quit. The determination, will and the absolute guts to quit and stay quit. There were new quitters and quitters that had two and a half years in their quit. I left with more determination and more strength to my quit than I have had in some time. I know I don't want to smoke and I know that it is about reprogramming my thoughts, one at a time. Rusty, Islandgirl, Lady, Shevie, Rob47, Duffis. Thanks I so appreciate having company on this little voyage. The 29th Thursday, day 132, Hooray! Today is the beginning of something new for me. I know that it will all be better and that having gotten through the last few days, weeks that there is a whole new and different horizon in my field of vision. I have been able to get through this whole time without smoking. I was speaking to a colleague this morning and I described what I am going through as being like a divorce. I went on to say that I am so proud of the fact that I haven't smoked, I have not replaced the smoking with anything else and I have been so good. For a while I have been tired and I think it will be way less challenging from now on. Not to say that I am lowering my guard but the idea of smoking has changed for me. I know that if I have been able to get through that I can use the experience as a model or example of what I might need in the future. Thanks to all of you for listening, reading and just being there. Duffis a special note to you, thanks for the winner talk because no matter what, how down or blue, how far I might have been into the pit I always thought of and looked to winning, so thanks for the vote of confidence. Gladly following and creating footprints on the path. Looking for the new me inside. I love the way Rusty put it. A great analogy of what we go through. And yes, it is more than worth all the growing pains. Sometimes he's a of a puzzle, sometimes he's just downright frustrating. But he will be so much of a better person when he's done. Patience, Phillip. Give yourself time to get to know the new you. He's still a work in progress, but I can tell he is going to be just wonderful. I'm glad to see you getting face-to-face help. And I agree 100% with Duffis. My dear Phillip: I have told you before, however, I am going to tell you again and probably will keep on telling you YOU ARE A WINNER; you just haven't quite seen that yet as the quit is keeping you bouncing around with your emotions. I usually don't get this involved with fellow quitters, but you are special to me and I really don't try to figure out why. Just go with the flow and always honor your self worth as you seem to be doing now and that is good. I follow you, watch you and pray for you. Again Phillip, you are a winner and don't ever forget it. Phillip, I was chatting with some friends this morning about how our lives have changed since we quit. It seems that for everyone there is this transformation, a rebirth, into a new person. It's like a moulting...the old skin shedding away and the new skin emerges little by little until we are bright and shiny new. We miss that old skin and we hate to see it go, we might even try to hang onto a bit of it. But the new us that finally reveals itself is so very much worth the shedding. I wouldn't want to go through it again, but I had to go through it to get to here. Love, Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 562 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 15,757 Amount Saved: $1967 Life Gained: Days: 77 Hrs: 9 Mins: 56 Seconds: 35
