Hi Ann! Wow looks like you've been through quite alot over the past day or so, but your 20 days in already! I remember at 20 days it was really kinda bad for me. I had this awful crave out of nowhere and it repulsed me so bad it made me nauseaus for almost a full day and that was NOT fun. Believe it or not it really does have a way of coming up on you and grabbing at you but you don't have to allow it to get you. Just stand up to it with all your might and say N.O.P.E.! Not One Ouff Ever. Not Ever!! Remember why you decided to quit to begin with? Look at those reasons and do me a favor, cry it out if you need to, because it is part of letting go of the addiction. Let's face it, these cigs were our best friends. But they've lied to us and told us things to believe so we would keep smoking. But we were killing ourselves smoking, whether we want to face it or not, that is the truth. Smoke=Death. But now it is up to you to live. You are fighting for your life, Ann. Don't let a stupid old lie get the best of you! You are much much stronger than that!! YOU CAN DO THIS! You ARE already doing this!! Just look at your meter!!! 20 days is QUITE the achievement!! And I am so glad you are here and are posting. Keep reading here Ann and keep us posted on how you are doing. Do you have things you can do, positive alternatives for smoking? Ann, After reading through this post and all of the responses, I just wanted to let you know that we are here for you. Hold on tight!! Your quit is worth fighting for. However, please re-read Cheryls words. I have posted her words before. When you give power to the junkie thoughts, you can lose your mind. I think that is what happened to you. Here is what she said to someone else: [quote] As long as your mind holds on to the fact that you might give in and let yourself have a cig, it will continue to hold out hope that your quit won't last (and the cravings that come with it will overwhelm you). [/quote] So true. The more your tell yourself that you might smoke, or how bad you want one, the harder you have to fight off the cravings. If you are telling yourself to make it to the 100 day mark, then look out at 101 days. That Nicodemon will come knocking. And you have already given yourself the mental okay to smoke. I can say, keep fighting for your quit, but let go of the battle. You are missing NOTHING from smoking. This battle will go on for as long as you let it. You have to take that power back. Once you let it go, things will seem calmer. Ann - Does your husband smoke? Mine does and talk about no support?? - He has begged me not to be an obnoxious non-smoker - no help at all. Sometimes when you feel like crying and going to bed - that may be the best place for you...take a good book, a relaxing hot bath, some nice smooth music, maybe a little glass of wine... Remove yourself from your frustrating circumstances. Do something nice for yourself. You are doing this! You are a strong woman and can own this quit for yourself. I promise it does get better. It's a bumpy emotional ride but one that is worth it's weight in gold. Hollar for help - some of us are always here! Ann - Try this relaxing technique. Lie down on the floor in a darkened room.Take deep breaths from your stomach on up to your chest - hold for 5 seconds and then breathe out of your mouth. Do this again...and again...and again...being very still. Then try this exercise...concentrate on relaxing your toes, then your feet, then your ankles,your shins, your knees and keep on going with every part of your body until you get to the place right between your eyes...now really concentrate on relaxing there...then go to your eyes, your brain and the top of your head. All the while breathing in deeply and breathing out from your mouth. Just let it all go... Stay there breathing for about 10-15 minutes - totally relaxing. Don't think about other things, don't cloud your mind. Just think about relaxing. A little soft music would help as well. Take some time for yourself. You deserve it! Hi Anne, you are having a tough time but stay focussed and determined. I know how tough it is believe me but try and think about all the good things about quitting rather than the one 'bad' thing. You do not smell like an ash tray, you have more cash in your pocket, you can breath a little easier, you do not wheeze quite as much, you don't cough quite as much....etc etc. Take pleasure and be proud of lasting just one more hour without smoking, when you have done that last just one more hour. What you are feeling will not last for ever I promise, just tough it out and you will be so glad. You do not want to go through the first 21 days again do you because most peeps that relapse end up trying again ayt soem point. You can do this Anne, if I can do it then I am pretty sure you can. I just know it can be done and you will learn to go through it alone and wil do fine. Kepp going girl! Ann, Congratulations, quitting smoking is one of the hardest things that you will ever do. And like childbirth, others can try to help and offer suggestions, but the work is all you. Somethings will be easy and others you just have to live through. One thing that helped me was when I realized that by allowing Junkie thoughts to take up residence in my mind, I was just making myself miserable. I just heard it from you in this post. You are hanging on to the thought that at some point in the future, there might still be the option of smoking. (I would like to make it 100 days atleast) I found that as long as that thought existed in my mind, the cravings would come back and dwell in my head for hours. I finally had to convince myself that no matter what, Smoking was no longer an option. I would resist unto death first. So when the cravings came, and I was tempted to give in I would say to myself "hasn't been unto death yet." It still hasn't been unto death, and I am still not smoking. But I found a new thought the other day, [color=navy]If your ship hasn't come in, swim out to it![/color] Hang on you will feel better some new day. Distract yourself Ann. Ignore hubby, it's your quit just for you, not his. Remember it is your decision as to whether you smoke or not, grab that steely determination and choose not to, just for the next hour, look no further for now.
