Hi On the Run -
Have you done the Quit Program Workbook on the left? It has tremendous help in learning all sorts of not smoking aids.
For me in the car - twizzlers always helped, a cold bottle of water
(I use seltzer water - it's fizzy, cut up straws (to pretend and to
satisfy that hand to mouth thing), or sugar free hard candy. I have
one (or all) of these handy - depending on the day. When I first quit I had them in the car all the time. As my quit has gotten longer the need to smoke in the car has diminished. Get in there and
clean out your car...clean the nicotine off the inside of your windshield, vaccuum it out, and fabreeze the upholstery or clean the leather - you will find that you don't want to smoke in a nice, clean car - and by the way - you don't want to smoke in the car because you are now a non-smoker! Isn't it great to say that??!!
Now about that not wanting to be short-tempered...I think I can safely say that about 90% of us here went through that short tempered thing. I thought I did fine but my husband is here to tell you that I was not. I eventually went on Wellbutrin and I think that it really helps with that. However, if you want to go cold turkey then some good tips are to - when you are feeling that inner rage - just go outside and take a long walk, think about all the great reasons that you are doing what you are doing, tell your friends and family to be gentle with you right now. This is an emotional, bumpy ride for some of us and the people close to you need to know what you are doing so they can be supportive and loving. If it gets really bad, put on those running shoes and hit the road! A warm bath with a cold bottle of water (or a glass of wine) and soft music also helps sometimes. Any time that you can just check out and concentrate on yourself and do something nice for yourself always helps. Try some relaxtion techniques - the one that works for me is
to lie down in a darkened room, and start to breathe deep, inhaling through your nose and holding it for about 5 seconds then exhaling through your mouth. Do this about 5 times then start to relax your toes, ankles, shins, knees, etc. work your way up your body to the top of your head - don't think about anything but relaxing. This
always helps me!
Anyway I have
