Hi everyone, just checking in...The physical is still going on combined with tiredness, and loss of appetite.. i am just going with it, trying to relax. The nicodemon has been pulling tizzy fits all day, "sreaming he wants his fix" i scream back hurry up and die.. You are all FANTASTIC in responding, i have come pretty damn close to total cave in, but as advised i come home FIRST...to SSC. I know that the rewards must be great from reading all your quits, QUESTION.. How do i battle this demon in my head, i mean sometimes he's relentless!!! will he release me!!!!!! You are all doing wonderful protecting your quit and so encouraging thanks for being there. I smoked for over 20 years too. It is amazing how brainwashed I was. I am now trying to undo all the lies the addiction told me. I never want to fall for them again. When will the demon release you? As soon as you release him. Does that make sense to you? Everytime you get a trigger to smoke ... do something different. Redirect your brain, your thinking, what you are doing. Create a new memory of you doing the same thing in the same situation but not smoking. You are doing to plant that on top of a time that you would have been smoking. You keep repeating this process, retraining your brain in situations until it then becomes second nature for you do something else instead of it being second nature for you to light up. I hope I explained that right. Anyway ... that is what I am doing. I am retraining my brain, addressing triggers, coping with emotions ... squelching nicodemon for good! Some people's worst days are 1, 2, 3 ... some are 8, 9, 10 ... some are 1-9 ... some are 3-5 & 10-12 ... It is different with everyone ... the same but different ... Hang in there and know that it WILL pass. Anyone who quits and goes through withdrawal is a winner. It takes character and strength. So, jeanigirl, be your own best friend. Talk nicely to yourself. Really praise yourself for your accomplishment thus far. Believe in your quit. Reinforce it with rewards, even little ones that give you a pat on the back. Your life is worth you going through this to claim your freedom from addiction. You can do this ... you are worth it! Absolutely jeanigirl, Your learning a new habit and a new way to live. This will take skills to maintain this new life and those skills will need to be practiced often until they become second nature. Glad to hear your working on the psychological component of your addiction. Positive self talk is the first step. (Adopt a mantra? Carry a list of all you're gaining from this quit) Rewards are also very important to start retraining your brain, especially in those first few weeks. Make sure the rewards are something of value to you.
