Stepped down to 14Mg patches....

One the recurring themes in this thread (and many others like it) is the phrase, "I know how you feel." In pastoral care, that phrase is an absolute no-no, because in fact, we can never know how anyone else feels. But here, it's not only appropriate, but a godsend. Is not withdrawal the great equalizer? Those who have gone before us do indeed "know exactly how it feels," and they know exactly what we're going through. That is surely one of the most amazing gifts of this wonderful community. Thanks. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 313 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 23 Seconds: 6

Wow, am I ever naiive!! I saw 13 patches in the box and thought I'd not have to use them all, and I wasn't about to spend another 30 bucks to "step down" to anything! Thanks for showing me what a long, hard road is ahead. Yikes! I better go have a Camel Light to calm down after reading all this!! (Not. Love the NOPE) peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 173 Amount Saved: $16.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 40 Seconds: 35

Just wondering, because I have been thinking about stepping down to the 14 mg patches. I know they recommend 6 weeks with the 21 mg patch..is that what other people have done. i was thinking of trying at 5 weeks but don't want to blow it. I do still feel quite dependent on the patch..sometimes I actually rub it to make sure its stll there and to give me security!

Hi Mo...it's the dreaded 3's again. When you first posted, I was on day 3 or my 14 mg patch and was having abit of a rough time with it. Things seem to be levelling out now. I don't know...Day 3...30 days...The number 3 must be our new unlucky number! Wow...you guys do have a rough ride - all going through different phases of this roller coaster at the same time. But what a great thing for your family to do! Patty, I used 21 mg for 4 days then smoked for 2 then went back on 21 mg for 5 weeks. I asked my Pharmacist who said that when stepping down, it is okay to go back up to 21 mg again if it is too soon. Honestly, I felt the change and had a couple rough days but it wasn't nearly as bad as the first 2 weeks. Maybe you should talk to your Pharmacist to see what they suggest. Good luck to both! Patty, I intend to use the 21 mg patch for a full six weeks. And when I'm feeling a little rough, I rub my patch too, just for security. I think of it as a dear friend right now. Patty, I used mine for 8 weeks, as presscribed by my Dr. It worked for me. Smoke free no patch..... you can do it, just decide to do it and keep rewarding yourself. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 138 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,084 Amount Saved: $552 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 7 Mins: 53 Seconds: 11

Hello MoQueen, I quit on patches too! I hardly noticed the 'step-down' and the good news - the one I noticed least was the 7mg to zero. You are doing well - keep going, keep posting and keep quit! all the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 262 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,879 Amount Saved: 1965 Life Gained: Days: 43 Hrs: 18 Mins: 58 Seconds: 9

Today I just stepped down to 14mg from 21. I have to admit that I was scared thinking about it and thought it might be like when I first quit. But, so far so good. It seems the same as when I had the 21's! I am surprised and thrilled at the same time. Just posted this to encourage those who will be stepping down a level on the patches. Can any of the "old-timers" that used the patches tell us how they felt when they stepped down? Thanks for asking, guys. Today it seems that I am not doing so well, but I WILL NOT SMOKE, no matter what! Some of you might remember that my son and husband also quit at the same time......they, unlike me are not getting any support from SSC so, I am the one passing on the valuable help, tips and encouragement that I get here. So basically, my husband is angry, my son is depressed and had a slip yesterday (had one smoke) but put a patch back on and did not smoke since and well I am overwhelmed. I am so tired and trying to get through the day the best I can.
