"This Too Shall Pass." The quote, in itself, is simple. The true wisdom to be found in its meaning is revealed in the story from which the quote originates. I have no idea if you know where this quote came from, but I shall tell the story here. I think you will find it incredibly wise, whether it serves as a reminder or this is the first time you hear it.... King Solomon, feeling blue, asked his advisors to find him a ring he had once seen in a dream. "When I feel satisfied Im afraid that it wont last. And when I dont, I am afraid my sorrow will go on forever. Find me the ring that will ease my suffering." he demanded. Solomon sent out all of his advisors, and eventually one of them met an old jeweler who carved into a simple gold band the inscription, "this too shall pass." When the king received his ring and read the inscription, his sorrows turned to joy and his joy to sorrows, and then both gave way to equanimity. You see, the great King found himself unable to be content. He felt sorrow when he was happy, and sorrow when he was not, because he was unable to see his way forward. The ring served to cancel out his sorrow. By constantly having something to look forward to, he found himself content. What he previously thought was satisfaction was only a superficial feeling that was brought on by his great wealth, which was only temporary, thus his satisfaction could not last forever. True satisfaction could only be found when he recognized his wealth for what it was. Think of King Solomon's satisfaction as smoking... his wealth, instead of gold, was cigarettes. When he did not have it, he was miserable because he wanted it, and believed it would make him happy. When he did have it, he was miserable because he knew that it wouldn't last, and that he'd constantly require more. This forum can be your ring. This too shall pass. Believe that, and you will have found your peace with the process of recovery from nicotine addiction. There is happiness to be found in realizing that you are already happy. Happy that you do not smoke. Happy that you committed to doing something tough, and did it. Happy that you've finally allowed yourself to be happy. Do not be jealous of people who can smoke. Dont look at quitting as a sacrifice

Check you out Julie! You have 50 awesome smoke free days tomorrow!!!! Did you realize that? You get to board the cruise ship tomorrow!!! I sure hope you have a reward planned. I was really happy about hitting my 50 day mark. The first 50 days seemed to go by so slow. But good news ... the second 50 days seem like they are going by fast! I guess that is progress, right?! LOL! As far as your cravings go ... I noticed that you recognize them as irrational. That is good. You keep recognizing them for what they are and you keep busy making non smoking memories and I'm sure that they WILL go away forever! And even if you do think about it once in a blue moon, I doubt it will be more than a fleeting moment before you laugh at the thought. You'll get there. I know what you mean about the kids too. I am soooooooo happy my kids do not see me or my husband smoking anymore. It is really great to improve ourselves not only for us but for our kids. It is a way to really show them how much we love them. I'm glad to see you are doing so well Julie. Keep it up! For Oodlechick:
1. Faith is the ability to not panic. 2. If you worry, you didn't pray. If you pray, don't worry. 3. As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home every day. 4. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape. 5. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so God can untangle the knot. 6. Do the math. Count your blessings. 7. God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts. 8. Dear God: I have a problem. It's me. 9. Silence is often misinterpreted, but never misquoted. 10. Laugh every day: it's like inner jogging. 11. The most important things in your home are the people. 12. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional. 13. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open. 14. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry. 15. He who dies with the most toys is still dead. 16. We do not remember days, but moments. Life moves too fast, so enjoy your precious moments. 17. Nothing is real to you until you experience it, otherwise its just hear-say. 18. It's all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure you flush when you are done. 19. Surviving and living your life successfully requires courage. The great goals and dreams you're seeking require courage and risk taking. Learn from the turtle--it only makes progress when it sticks out its neck. 20. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are. 21. Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death.
Hope this list helps. Hello Breaking Free, Its always nice to come and read your post. I have not been on the site lately. Since I ve started school its all I can do is to keep up on all my studies and my family and my other outside comittments. See I dont have time to smoke! Everyday Iam reminded through some experience of how elated I am that I dont smoke anymore. It is a great nuance and waste of time. I still have those all the sudden irrational powerful cravings which drive me nuts. I want them to GO AWAY FOREVER. Plus I ve gained a few pounds, but overall I am feeling great, in addition knowing I am setting the example for my kids who are preteens. I still chew on straws and sugar free gum, which my kids are picking up my habits LOL. They are always asking me for a straw or piece of gum! Nice to chat to ya, hope your doing fine, that goes for everyone else as well.
