Unexplainable Symptoms

Exasperated (and Danielle). I have experienced a lot of those symtoms and a few more, so no, you're not alone. Everyone's quit is different. I smoked for about 45 years and was up to about 3 pks a day (+-). On a physical note, my body is still adjusting itself to life before nicotine, which I don't even remember; (not to mention the hundreds of other chemicals they add to keep you hooked). You may also experience diahrea, (and I actually experienced a higher pitched voice with a faster speach pattern after the first few weeks--strange, thought I sounded like I'd had a good dose of helium! :gasp: Anyway, different people experience quitting in different ways and yet some the same. I'm retired and slept as much as possible for the first 4 weeks. I didn't have a lot of symptoms till after that (except for the gas and my need for constant liquids). I ran across the list of (partial, at that), listing the hundreds of chemicals and combinations thereof, that are cigarette additives. I don't remember having any of these withdrawal symptoms when I quit back in the late 70's, and I had been smoking then for about 12 yrs. The additives they put in today include not only chemicals, but flavor enhancers you're not even aware of like chocolate, almond, vanilla, etc. Anyway, If I ever find the list again, I'll post it. The FDA does not require the tobacco companies to list these ingredients as they do on food products and the companies will not tell you exactly what they add. Reacting, instead of responding, is also not unusual. I'm still trying to get it all under control. The thing is, as many withdrawal symptoms as I've had, and still do some, the "quit" is definitely worth it to me. All in all, you couldn't pay me enough to smoke again; because I wouldn't want to have to quit again. This time is enough! You're doing great, kiddo!! Hang in there!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 141 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,518 Amount Saved: $1015.2 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 13 Mins: 38 Seconds: 27

I have been experiencing some interesting problems. Recently, I have ad difficulty coping with certain stressful situations; handling them poorly, taking out frustrations on others, reacting in an unhealthy manner. But, the thing that is bothering me is the physical issues I have been experiencing lately; severe headaches (especially right behind my eyes), body aches and soreness, and fevers that seem to come from out of nowhere! I thought that these symptoms may be physco-symatic (developed from the situation I am experiening and not able to cope, so my body conjurs up these symptoms). Is this possible? Am I hurting myself because I have not been able to handle some difficult situations and not discussing things? Or, could there be an underlying problem? Does anyone have an idea or comment? Has anyone ever experienced something like this? No, its not that type of pressure. I have had sinus headaches before, and this is nothing like that. As Danielle stated, I think my body is manifesting these symptoms. Which in my opinion, is pretty messed up that I dont know myself well enough to understand what I am feeling. I have never experienced symptoms like this from stress. It is slowly subsiding as the day goes on...and I am not stressed, feeling anxiety, or tension. This happened a few days ago when I stressed out. That is why I think my body is manifesting the symptoms...to compensate for not handling my stess, anger and anxiety in a positive, healthy way. It is getting me back for stuffing! Hey Dave, You know, i've gone through the exact same things. In fact, I did yesterday morning, but it was in reaction to breathing some second hand smoke. I also had those symproms as withdrawals. Though, you seem (to me anyways, I might be wrong) to be too far along in your quit as having withdrawals? Have you been exposed to a lot of second hand smoke lately? If not, then i'd say it was a manifestation of stress. The fevors is what caught my eye. i've been having those as well, and it's really strange. ~Peg My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 743 Amount Saved: $169 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 19 Seconds: 48

Exasperated, Don't be too hard on yourself! You may have been doing this for a long time. Again, I think a visit to your MD is in order. Stress can lead to stress related illnesses. Your doctor will be able to open up a door full of helpful ressources available to you in your community to help you deal with this problem. Aren't you glad you quit? Who knows how long this would have gone on if you hadn't! Keep up the great progress and be proud of your accomplishment! 78 days is fantastic! What you describe sounds like me when I'm coming down with either a flu or a sinus infection. Headaches behind the eyes could be sinus problems. I guess it could be psychosomatic, but you really should go see your doctor. Not much to do about a flu, but a sinus infection can be knocked down real quick with medicine.
