HI! Tomorrow (well tonight when I go to bed is my quit day) I have been mentally getting ready, Have found this site. My husband is behind me in this. (he doesn't smoke). I am thinking of all the good reasons, besides health.. no smelly house or car. I won't smell like an ashtray when I get hugs! The dogs won't sneeze! Hang in there, I'll be right there too. dawghouse

Kay; You will do fine in your quit. It won't be extremely easy & it won't be horribly bad. It will be just fine, easier than you think especially if you prepare yourself for when the craving spikes. They only last a few minutes so have a treat ready to turn to (grapes or gum or can of soda or sugarless candy or go post about it), just something different & not routine. Tell yourself that it will satisfy you (even if you don't FEEL like it will, keep telling yourself it WILL). If the trigger is situational (smokers around, smelling smoke, etc) get away from it if you can. Have a plan of action ready for those types of settings. In the first few days I spent a lot of time in my "quit plan" adding ideas. I also ranted a whole lot in my journal. If you're willing to do some footwork in a quit plan, you'll be able to look back at the first week & realize it was much easier than you imagined it could be. I was able to do just that and so can you!!!! Stay Smoke-Free & Healthy! Doing Great Aruba! Do you have any distractions like mints, candy, or gum? I am still new to my quit but in the first week I drank lots of ice water and did alot of breathing exercises. I also chewed on straws and flavored toothpicks. Hope this helps and congrats! You can do this! Well, this am, at 8am....i through away both my ashtrays, and 5 packs of cigs i had left....I am excited and scared at the same time. I am going through a very rough time right now, as far as my life goes, and at the same time, i figured what the hell, this is as good a time as any to do this, b/c life is always going to have stress and if i can do it during this hard time, then i can do it anytime....as i sit here now at work, and am typing this, i can feel my chest tightening up making me think it's time for a smoke. I would like to not feel this way, i want to not want one sooooooooooo bad. I hate them, they stink, and they are ruining my life. I don't need them, and i am trying my best to do this today and everyday now for the rest of my life. I want to be stronger than the urge...stronger than the nicotine calling my name....help, i do need help from you all. Thanks Kate

Thanks....it's going to be easy right? I am not receiving the fact that EVERY one says how hard it's going to be.....but i want to think it's going to be easy!!! We'll see how long that thought lasts:) Hopefully it will be not too bad. I hope i am not setting myself up for a fall...i have been wanting to quit for several years now...i was supposed to quit on my 40th bday...which was July 26th...i didn't do it. But i have decided to do this today, and haven't told but one person, my co worker....my family will be in shock. My husband moved away from me on the couch last night b/c the smoke was blowing in his face...and he smokes part time, when he drinks...i hate the fact that he can take them or leave them...he's not addicted like me...it is not fair....but anyway none the less, i have to do this for me, and my children. They hate smoking and always have...i want to do this for me, and them alone!!!! Oh, and for my poor dad who is suffering now from emphysema, can't breathe, is on oxygen, has had a heart attack, a stroke, lung cancer, and now emphysema...who's on oxygen....who smokes forever!!!!!!!! He quit like 13 yrs ago, and that's when all his trouble started for him....how strange...damn i hope the same thing doesn't happen to me...i hope my body doesn't get worse....that would suck!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, enough rambling...just trying to get through this now.
