Things that get you to think about quitting

Wanting to have good health and lower my blood pressure, and wanting children. Wanting not be dependant on nicotine, wanting the urge to stop, wanting to smell good again and be able to smell and breath again. There were too many reasons to list. Navigator. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 229 Amount Saved: $39.6 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 7 Seconds: 23

Eve, Thanks for sharing this with us. What a great post. An excellent way to get others to revisit their reasons for quitting. Danielle _____________________________ The SSC Support Team

Reason #7 Enjoying the real taste of FOOD again! (and not hacking up a lung in between bites!) The TRUTH is: I used to eat lunch or whatever if I was out at work or a restaurant, I would have to wait until I went into the bathroom to clear and cough my throat up because it was really really disgusting even for me to hear it! I know I have heard it many many times at other tables and other people around me who have the cough and sit there and do it but BOY IS IT GROSS TO HEAR IT!!! That is th hard ugly truth. But the worst part is that sometimes I would have to cough so bad that I could not even talk without hacking! I would have to excuse myself very quietly :( It was very embarrassing too. I wanted to laugh and talk but could not, was too afriad of fleghm flying out. GROSS!!!! YIKES REALLY GROSS!!! I am so glad I don't have to go through that anymore!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 648 Amount Saved: $240 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 19 Mins: 30 Seconds: 15

I think this would be a great 'REASON TO QUIT' thread and if y'all don't mind I will start listing my reasons here, seems like a good place to start! They are not necessarily in any kind of order either, I don't have that kind of genius memory (lol), but are reasons I have thought of prior to my quit. Anyone and everyone feel free to list all their reasons here too, if you haven't already started your own reason thread or list :) Reasons # 1, 2 & 3 above, but listed here #1 Want kinds #2 Don't want to cough anymore #3 My desire for a healthy earth Reason # 4: Waking up in the morning and going outside with my coffee and breathing fresh air and really enjoying it INSTEAD of that nasty smoking stuff that would fog my head all up and make me hack away at nature. I am so glad I don't smoke anymore. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 645 Amount Saved: $240 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 18 Mins: 50 Seconds: 38

Reason #5: Enjoying a movie in a real Theatre without desiring a smoke half way through. Reason #6: Enjoying the scenery and the music in the car while driving instead of inhaling nasty smoke getting in your eyes and making you swerve alomst having an accident because of a stupid cig. I was thinking about things that got me thinking, REALLY THINKING about making this decision to quit...what did I see or hear or experience that got me on the road to my quit? well it was a few things. 1) the fact that I want to have kids one day so I would need to be quit anyway before ever getting preg. 2) I really wanted to get rid of my coughing (or the cold that never ends) but the one thing that got all this going was a TV commercial. Now I have seen some really great commercials and advertisements about quitting (I couldn't stand the ones that practically yelled at you for doing it but offered no alternatives!) but none stuck out like this one - just before I decided to quit - it starts out as bubbles in the air, like kids rainbow bubbles, those fun summertime bubbles that come with the little magic wand! So I thought what a great way to start an ad right? Turns out it is telling you about how to rid the world of smoke and focusses on kids and family. It got to me so much that it got me to start thinking it was time. The physical sign was the ONE that sealed my quit altogether, but I was thinking about it long before I had experienced any pain. What gets me going about it is that it focusses on the things I was seriously thinking about! Go figure. That's truth in my face. Sooo.. What was your "thinker" that got you going? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 641 Amount Saved: $240 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 42 Seconds: 13
