Hello again...........and thank you for all the kind words it really helps to hear other people tell you that you will make it through this hard time......I have almost made it through another day......A day I never thought I was going to make it through. Emotional roller coaster is an understatement that is for sure. If you asked me last week if I thought I was going to try to quit smoking during one of the most stressfull times in my life I would have laughed. But I am truly scared out of my mind. I can not control the outcome of my results but I can control what I continue to do to myself each day....so it is the way I am trying to deal with everything.....right, wrong or indifferent.......at this moment I can't tell you if anything I think is even rational. I really do appreciate all of you helping me hang on!! I am drinking lots of water and sun flower seeds to settle me. I am truly amazed at the affect this has over your entire body....it is shocking....I hope you all don't mind me rattling....Jess

Hello everyone, I am on day two of quitting and really am having a very difficult time....not using anything. I found out on Monday I might have breast cancer and I threw away my cigarettes that night. I will have to wait to find out about the breast cancer but I have to quit smoking I know that...........but man this is sooo hard........I am crawling out of my skin.

Ok so......I tried the nicotene gum.......it helped for the moment but now I regret it......the cravings are worse now and I feel like I am starting over again. Today was another bad day and I probably should have been over the nicotene had I not tried the gum. So I am going to try tomorrow with no gum again for the three days and suffer through it........this is so hard.....but I have no choice I have to win the fight. Thanks everyone, Jess

Thanks again everyone.........well I am at work today.....it is a little easier today......I am not wanting to say that as I am afraid as soon as I do it will bite me. But I am staying with it. I have a friend here at work that is going to bring me in some of the nicotine gum to try....I used it a while ago and it seemed to burn my mouth....any suggestions or comments??? I am going to be home now the next three days and am worried about that as I have not been home a full day since I quit....ugh! I will take it as it comes I guess. I am also looking for food all the time.......that can't be good!! Well thanks again for all your support.....it really HELPS! Jess

Hi Jess This must be a very difficult time for you. You will meet much wiser and more experiened quitter than me. However, I DO remember what hell week was like. To be honest, the only way most of us make it through those first few days is to go one baby step at a time. We do only what we have to and leave the rest. This is the time to take care of yourself. Distract yourself in whatever way possible: (someone suggested household chores to me - but that was definately no MY first choice of distractions) You need to do whatever works for you; a walk, chatting with a friend, posting on SCC, posting again and again, reading a book, having a cup of tea, watching t.v. - whatever works. I spent alot of those days curled up under the covers. Over the days, I have also taken the opportunity to read the information offered by this site and especially to read the post of others. You will meet many others who feel exactly as you do and you will meet many who have gone through this and are thriving with their freedom from cigarettes. All I can say is one day at a time, one step at a time, sometimes one minute at a time....You can do it....and we will be here to support you! Hi Jess, Day 2 is one of the most difficult days I experienced in a long while. It does get easier. Must be doubly difficult when you have the extra worry about your health. Well done on not smoking! Erm, I took the gum and found my GERD was worse. I recently learned nicotine is the majority of the problem for acid reflux and GERD. Nicotine paralyzes the spincter throat muscle which opens to allow the food from the throat to enter the stomach. Then it will close off again to keep the stomach juices from going into the throat. My GI doc came right and said the saliva from the mouth and if it contains nicotine, can be easily mixed in and then it is subconsiously (sp??) swallowed. You may want to consult your pharmacist and your doc about the nicotine gum. I am telling you what my GI doc said so I immediately stopped the gum.
