If this doesn't drive me to smoking. Nothing will

17 years ago 0 481 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
When bad things happen, I think we have to remind ourselves that not smoking didn't cause this and it certainly isn't going to help the situation to smoke. We have to remind ourselves of this because that is the way we used to deal with it but think back, it didn't really help did it? Anyways, there is one thing to think about too. Those kids, if you do end up having to have them for a time, do not need to go from one addicted household (the prescription drug addict) to another (nicotine addict) You could choose to be the one person that they know not enslaved to any drug, totally free! What a great gift to give your neices and nephews! AllyAnn, smoking is not going to help in a stressful situation. It never did. We just relieved our fixes during stressful situations which gave the illusion that they helped, when really all they did was lie to us. I am sorry to hear what is going on with your family, but know that what you are doing is the right thing. All of you will make it through this. You seem like a very loving person ... don't forget time for you ... no matter how hectic it may get. Dear AlleyAnn, I think that you are an absolute champion for agreeing to take the children if need be. Thank goodness you got the heads up from your mum before the social worker called. Your stats are awesome! And I'm sure that you haven't got this far without knowing that smoking a cigarette won't change the situation or make it less stressful. In fact you would probably be more stressed / angry with yourself for losing your fantastic quit record. Please keep us posted with developments and know that we are here for you. take care alison Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 909 Amount Saved: $375 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 7 Mins: 5 Seconds: 41

Wow, what a huge thing to happen. Look at your quit, don't give up now. You know that smoking will not make anything better, only make you feel like crap! Things will work themselves out, they always do, right? I received a phone call tonight from a Social Worker in Minnesota. My mother had called me about an hour before this call to fill me in. My sister a single mother of 3 kids with a perscription drug addicted boyfriend was turned into social services for having an unfit environnment for her children and is being investigated to see if the kids are being abused. I live in New Mexico and don't get to see my family all that often. She is my only sister but we are very different and have never been real close. On the other hand I would do anything for her and her kids if I needed to. The social worker called to ask me if I would be willing to take these 3 kids, ages 14, 11 and 9. Oldest is a boy the other 2 are girls. This would be added to my 2 girls ages 9 and 21 months. We have a nice size house but it still is only a 3 bedroom. I had to say yes that I would take them if thats what it came down to but just the thought of how this is all going to work has made me want to smoke really bad. My hubby got so stressed out talking and thinking about it he left to go bowling, just to relieve some tension. I don't know much more of whats going on or whats going to happen. They are having a meeting on monday night to discuss the options and what actions to take. They are going to call me so I can listen to that meeting. I guess I will learn more then what will happen to these 3 kids. Please pray for me and these 3 innocent children. Put in there to give me the strength to not smoke. Alley, You are doing a wonderful thing. It is not the choice of the children to be in the house that they are in. Good or bad. I understand your stress level, but you know that smoking would make things much worse. Much, much worse. You are a wonderful sister and Aunt. And believe me, they are lucky to have you. You are a kind person Alley. You always offer a hand in need, and kind words from your heart. God made you that way, and for that we are all thankful. I will pray for you and your sister, and her kids, and her husband. Being an addict is sad, no matter what the addiction is to. AlleyAnn.. Welcome to life as a non-smoker. You deal with each situation and each event without smoking. Cool huh. Wanting to smoke in stressful situations is perfectly normal and part of the quit process. You will learn coping skills and eventually learn how to deal with things without immediately thinking of smoking everytime something happens. It just takes time. Remember to take deep breaths. A lot of them. You are going to do just fine. One step at a time. We always get ourselves in trouble when we try to take more than that. Walk, don't run. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 349 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,991 Amount Saved: $1221.5 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 19 Mins: 21 Seconds: 9
