Hi Maria,
I only get around once in a day or two so missed your post. I hope your day is going well? Probably still a mixture of fear but now coupled with exhilaration - because you are now DOING your quit!
I am a little further down the road - but not much. My quit has been quite strange. Such a weird mixture of feeling not many problems at all (other than thinking "I have given up" all the time. LOL) and sudden sweeps of........ something. Couldn't really call them cravings because it's not been that I've suddenly wanted a cig. Just that I get swamped by these feelings of discomfort. I guess partly of missing something. Well, if you smoked over 30 a day and were a smoker for over 20 years, you're going to miss something - aren't you?
Those times, cravings if you like, I've taken time out and done some deep breathing. And sometimes sucked like mad on a dummy cig. And waited for them to pass. I've likened them in my head to contractions though not as painful, more like in the way you just have to ride them out. It comes on, it peaks, you breathe through it and it gets less and less until it ebbs away. The severity lessens each time you get through it. And the more you do, the more practiced you become at thinking "it will be over in a couple of minutes". And off you go again.
had a few killer ones towards the end of week one. Had a day in week 2 when the blues kicked in. Doing pretty well now! Keep busy. Find a means of relaxation and "me" time. You are after all, giving up quite a lot of "me" time in leaving the cigs behind. I have taken up a yoga class and have a new MP3 player (from the saved money!) becaues music works as a mood enhancer for me. Get your own rewards in place.
And good luck. Look forward to reading more.
