drinking and smoking

Hi Lovestofish, Like you I enjoy a drink with friends who may or may not smoke. I'm finding these days that the smell of smoke makes me convinced that I will never smoke again. And having a few beers puts me in a good mood, but certainly doesn't put me in the mood to smoke. It's all to do with breaking associations. For instance, there are people on the site who have stopped drinking coffee because, to them coffee and smoking go hand in hand, and they fear that they will lapse. (I recently said to Mrs Ed that since I associated being with her and my smoking cigs, that she'd have to go as well :p ) We all have to be cautious and on our guard during our quit; it's just a shame to have give up some of the good things in life when quitting this awful addiction take care Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 146 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,386 Amount Saved: 1095 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 9 Mins: 2 Seconds: 9

Hi, you and Ed are right about associations between cigs and alcohol but, because my wife has never smoked, I never used to even take cigarettes out with me when we went to the pub so that I did not pollute her space. So I do not associate smoking with alcohol however, I do have to be on my guard when drinking simply because we drop our guard and become more relaxed once we have had a drink. Fortunately when I have been drinking since I quit I have drank responsibly and therefore not been tempted.
