Tallulahmay, congrats on your accomplishment so far, you are doing a great job, and what a great attitude you have. You go ahead and love yourself, and chase those junkie thoughts away, you will one day be totally free of your nico addiction, remember the YOU.. before you became an addict... im still early in my quit, but stay the course it does get easier, and i would say happier... i was the most miserable quitter early on, now im finding some middle ground, and learning to deal with the real me... stay strong and reward yourself, all the best jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 657 Amount Saved: $237.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 8 Mins: 31 Seconds: 21

I think a lot of us are shocked to see not only the junkie thinking we had as addicts (all the subconscious lies we believed), but the stinkin' thinking we had as well. It is like we have to learn how to truly love ourselves again. In my opinion, as an addict I did not fully love myself or others. Would you encourage your child to smoke? No. Why? Because you love them. So why did we smoke? Why did we start? If we really loved ourselves, would we have started? I don't know, but I know one thing for sure and that is that I am finishing up a lesson on truly loving myself. I think this lesson will help me cope with emotions better, stick to personal boundaries, respect myself more and make my chance of relapse much less. I really enjoyed your post talullahmay. Keep up the great work. Keep up the self-affirmations. Positive thinking works when you believe and put it into action. Talullahumay, Have you given any thought to keeping a journal? You're on the right track! Keep challenging those negative thoughts! Being quick to anger is normal during the beginning of your quit. Did you smoke when you were stressed? If so I challenge you to start thinking of alternatives to this habit. We are proud to see you standing strong at 11 days! Hi, Ann. Congratulations on 11 smoke-free days. That is truly awesome. :) The emotional turmoil of quitting is, I think, the hardest to cope with. Right now your brain's and body's chemistries are totally whacked out from the lack nicotine. Everything is having to readjust and one result is the emotional swings. The swing into depression is, IMO, the worst. Right now you need to focus on rewarding yourself for remaining smoke-free. When you smoked, the nicotine was a reward. That needs to be replaced with non-smoking rewards. They don't have to cost much, or anything at all. Whatever gives you a warm-and-fuzzy or makes you smile is a reward. I agree with everyone else that you are a remarkably strong person with a great attitude. Keep up the good quit, Ann. hello everybody. hope you're all well. i enjoy reading the posts on a daily basis and find them very inspiring. phycologically im struggling. my head and thoughts are all over the place. very angry and resentful towards myself about anything. finding myself reacting to things especially my boyfriend. unable to let things go - hanging on to the buzz of the anger - something to replace the buzz of the nicotine. not healthy - soul destroying. can i truly be happy without nicotine - of course, but i need trust and hope instead of anger and self punishment. today i am respecting myself today i am a strong person today i am a good person today i am not alone today i acknowledge my needs. im grateful today for - being nicotine free support and encouragement a brief walk to let off some excess energy asking for help / advice being me and being ok thanks all for being there ann My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 162 Amount Saved: 47.3 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 22 Seconds: 2

Ann, what amazing strength you have inside you! Positive thoughts to counteract all those junkie thoughts that the Little Me is trying to throw at you. Yes, that part of you will mess with your head. But the REAL you is stronger than that. It is a battle, that's for sure. But remember all the armor and ammo you've got. It's much more than the enemy. So stick in there...you can do it and you ARE doing it!
