Kate, First up - Well done on 4 days!!! Get through the weekend and you've got a week under your belt. Go Kate! Of course your body wants a cig. Its used to getting 10 of those suckers a day at least and it will be reminding you that you'll feel better if you just have one, but that won't do for long, then you'll need another and another. When did one cig EVER leave you so satisfied that you never felt the need for another??? Doesn't it show you just how addicted you are to nicotine. It certainly blows out of the water any idea that we smoked for any other reason. Hold on to your quit. Your body is clean and is beginning to repair itself. Yes it's hard. It hurts. But to get out of this addiction you have to hold out and just refuse to smoke another cigarette. Read read read about nicotine addiction, withdrawal and recover. The crave won't hurt you - it's unpleasant and sometimes down right nasty but it can't kill you. Cigs will. Your brain will begin rewiring now that the nicotine has left your body. Now the real recovery begins!!! Go Kate! Keep posting if you're having a hard time. It helps heaps to get it all out. Understanding the changes your body goes through when you quit smoking is the first step towards dealing with them. Knowledge is power. I stongly recommend that you read everything you can get your hands on concerning what your body and mind can possibly expect to go through when quitting. A wonderful thing to keep in mind though is that most changes your body and mind are going through will be short lived, especially if you work hard on all aspects of your quit. If you want to change your life, change your mind. You can do this Kate. Feel the need to succeed. HANG IN THERE KATE! YOU CAN DO THIS, JUST DON'T GIVE UP. One cig WILL NOT make you feel better, you'll just want another and another. Take it from someone who's tried it. It's not worth it. We are all here for you and know EXACTLY how you feel and what you are going through. We all want you to succeed. NOT ONE PUFF EVER! Kate, You're doing great!!! Just keep on doing what you've been doing, and you'll make it through this! It's like Winston Churchill once said, "If you're going through hell, keep going!" You're doing an awesome job! No, quitting isn't easy. If it were, there wouldn't be ANY smokers and there would be no reason for this wonderful support group here. So yes, it's hard. Yes, it takes all of the strength and determination that you've got, but you know what? I'm glad it was hard! I'm glad it was the hardest thing I ever did because that makes me not want to EVER do it again! Kate, it might be hard, but it IS doable and the freedom is so amazing! So hang in there and keep going! Don't ever give up on yourself! Crave the Quit! How you doing, Kate? Take a nap or a hot bath; post and read your way through it. Stomp that nicodevil. Don't let him take back control of your life. It is a big lie. Smoking will not make you feel better. Hang on girl. It is worth it. Hang in there kate - you're at a very early stage and it does seem impossible at times. See your doctor if you can and ask for help, come here and post, take a long walk - do whatever you need to do to get yourself through the tough times. It get's a LOT easier in time - please believe me. I have no difficulty at all staying smoke free now. You will get here - I promise - just hang tough.
