Tiny stabbing little pains - very piercing though - irregular heart beat, sometimes - really rapid heart when the panic was coming on - hard to catch my breath then would start hyperventilating - it is like one symptom leads to another. Nite, Maria This message was edited by am on 2-23-02 @ 8:29 PM

Red, I went to the doctor Wednesday and she put me on Paxil and Visterol. But, the Paxil will not be in my blood stream for 11 more days. So I am having to cope with the anxiety by myself and with the Visterol if I have an attack. I really appreciate your response. I am glad that you are doing better. Allison

Hi, Allison, My symptoms were much the same as yours, only I had so very much chest pain, I was not allowed to leave the ER, nor would I. I was sent home 9 hours later with meds that made it worse. It took me all of the next day to locate a Cardiologist for I wax hospitalized for PERICARDITIS. It went away after taking Indocin for 6 or 8 months. This disease triggered my already existing panic disorder. I am not a doctor, only someone who had it happen the other way around. Red This message was edited by am on 2-23-02 @ 8:26 PM

Maria, Thanks for responding! I am eager to research MVP. What symptoms were most prominent for you with MVP? It is good to have someone to talk to who understands what a panic attack feels like. Anne-Marie, Thanks so much for the welcome. I did take the anxiety test. As for your question, No I don't know any relaxation tips. Could you please share some. The annoyance is not the panic attacks right now it is the anxiety and chest pains in between. Thanks. Allison

Hi, Allison. Welcome to the site! Have you taken the anxiety test? You can print out the results and take it to your doctor. This is designed to help you and your doctor explore all aspects of the disorder. The spirit of our site lies in Behavior Modification. It's quite nerve-wracking to have anxiety, but are you practicing any relaxation techniques? Do you know any?

Dear Allison, Sounds like what happened to me when I was first diagnosed with panic disorder - I was constantly checking my pulse, waking up in the night not being able to breath, hyperveniltating and, having chest pains. That became the telling factor in my prognosis and, now, a constant in my life. They discovered I have an MVP, which is a Mitral Valve Prolapse - this explained everything - research this strange little heart quirk - many people with panic disorders have MVPs. I am now taking Ativan - this has been the only drug over the years to totally relieve me of panic attacks - I have 'break throughs' when my life is very stressful in one way or another, but, if I take my meds like clock work, all is well. I hope that helped, Maria

HI, my name is Allison and I am only 18 years old. I was diagnosed aboyt 2 days ago with a panic attack disorder and was given paxil and visterol. It started Sunday night when I was in the car with my boyfriend. We were discussing the movie Monster's Ball which we had just seen. All of a sudden I got an intense hot sensation running through my body and I started having trouble breathing. I waited just a moment to see if it would stop. Then I told my boyfriend, Kyle, that we needed to go to the Emergency Room. We were there in a matter of minutes and I told the nurse what was happening. She informed me that I was hyperventilating. The immediatly took me back and did an EKG on me. They said everything looked ok and since it wasn't life threating I would have to go back to the waiting room. I sat in the waiting room for 3 hours and finally decided to go home after finding out with would be another 3 hour wait. I went and told the nurse that I was leaving and she wanted to check my oxygen level before leaving. It was fine at first, but then it started to decrese. I am not sure what it got down to though. I went home that night and could barely shut my eyes in fear that I would not wake up. I got very little sleep that night. The next day I was constantly checking my pulse. I could feel my heart pounding and I had a lump in my throat all day. I was much better by Thursday. I went to sleep Thursday night around 12:00. I awoke at 1:20 by sharp pains in my chest, tingling, and closing of the throat. It took about 30 minutes to subside. I was able to go back to sleep. Today my chest is sore. I guess from my heart beating so hard. ect. I decided it would be good for me to talk to other people about what is happening. I know that I have written a lot, but I do have one question. Do any of you have symptoms of anxiety outside of the attacks? Thanks~Allison
