I'm in year 2 of a three year technology course. I guess as a person of logic, it's tough for me to think about how this is treatable, or that it could be a problem, probably ignorance. I have all these questions now, I will look up that book you mentioned in the library. I have set up an appointment with my doctor for tomorrow, I'll be sure to let everyone here know how it goes. My only problem now I suppose, is what if I get a prescription, will the medication affect me? What I mean is, will I have a harder time with school work, or will it actually help? I suppose this is another question for my doctor. Thanks again everyone for your help. I'll definitely be back.

Cody, Yes you can bring this anxiety test to your doctor. He may or may not refer you to a specialist. It really depends if you need one or not. Most family physicians refer you to specialists that they know and trust. So, again this is a win, win situation. Hope this helps. Keep in touch Have a good night, Melanie

Hi, Cody, Just curious...what are you studying in college? What year are you in? I would start at the family doctor. That is where I started. It may be recommended that you get a workbook. I can give you the name of the one I use. It is by Edmund J. Bourne, PhD. You might mention that to you dr. You can get them in bookstores too. I have seen them in there, Take a browse thru the store and see. Find the book and see if it appleis to your problem. Hey, being a guy has nothing to do with this panic stuff. We have guys here..MrBubble..where are you? I think you need to know this is a treatable condition that has roots in life experiences..it knows no gender. Take a copy of this test to your family doctor. It will save you time in getting treated for this. I think it is extremely masculine of you to post here with us, and to seek help. I lok up to you for this. It shows strength of character.Hope this helps you to be a little more at ease about it. Red

I guess it's the guy coming out of me, if it doesn't hurt physically, I'm fine :) I'm in college, not highschool, not sure if that matters. I took the test, and actually got a report, which I suppose means theres a chance I have some issues. If I were to bring this to a doctor, would I have to find a specialist, or can I just go to my family doctor?

Hi, Cody,l and welcome to the place to talk it out. We all have various stages of panic disorder, and from all different causes. There are many causes for this "thing". Sometimes a trauma can cause it, and like me, I was born with it. heredity, I think they call that. I also has a traumatic experience or three that caused more severe symptoms. Luckily for me, I had a doctor who recognized this in me, and medicated me fo rit. Later I was in a car wreck and went fo rsurgery and saw the "shrink". He is a PhD with th esame back problems I have. So he has great empathy in my case. he treated me successfully, for a driving phobia, which I also got from the wreck. I have a good workbook at home, full of exercises, take meds, and have myself under control. It did take some time, and I dedicated the time to work on myself. Noone can do this for you. You have to do it for yourself. The first thing I would do, is to take the Anxeity Test offered at this site. I would then print it out and take it to my doctor. The test is a tool.a very useful tool to help your physician diagnose your problem, thus allowing for better, faster treatment fo ryou. help is out there..please go for it. These symptoms will not go away by themselves. You will have to do some introspection, and work at isolating when it happens, and then maybe the why will be evident to you and your doctor. Please take this opportunity to help yourself. We are here for you..we will support you..you can confide in us. We are all working on ourselves here at this site.. Hope to hear from you soon. Red

Hi Cody, It is very nice to hear from you. Have you been able to try our anxiety test yet? To tell you the truth anxiety and panic are a part of our everyday lives. Don't be afraid of going to see your Doctor. Everything that is mentioned to him is confidential. Highschool is a very stressful time, and if you get on top of this right away, I believe that you may feel a world of difference. I hope that you continue to post with us Cody :). Please keep in touch! Looking forward to your next post. Take Care, Melanie

Hello all. I've done some reading through this site, and I think I may be suffering from panic attacks. I find that when I'm in class or doing group projects with people, I can't concentrate, I feel real tense, it's beginning to effecting my marks. I haven't talked to a doctor yet, I'm skeptical as to what he could do. Does anybody have an advice? Similar experience?
