Top 5 things that trigger cravings and how we handle them!

18 years ago 0 18 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
1. When on the computer. I have been cleaning like a demon. There is a motto, "you can do anything for 15 minutes". SO, I am using this motto in more than one way - first as a distraction from cravings, and secondly I tell myself " I can go 15 minutes without a cigarette, easy" and by the time 15 minutes if gone, the crave has passed and I have decluttered something. 2. Morning coffee. sip slowly enjoying that I can REALLY appreciate the flavor now. 3. When my hubby lights up. As soon as he leaves, I go through the house and get all of the ashtrays. I wash them and put them up so that when he comes home he has to go get one. 4. In the car - I buy a huge cup of ice from sonic and munch on that. Increases my water intake, no calories, and keeps me busy. 5. After eating - drink more water. 1- Talking on the phone!! I try to walk and throw in a fresh piece of gum! 2- After a meal!! I try to eat a piece of fruit then throw in a handful of sunflower seeds! Has worked well so far! 3- After sex!! This is a hard one! I go for the fruit again or just have sex again!,,lol I take some deep breaths and lot of cuddling and chatting helps!! 4- Stressful moments!! I walk away take some deep breaths clear my mind, remember my resolve to never smoke then face the problem head on! 5- driving!! I eat alot of sunflower seeds while i drive! but it works! 1.) First thing in the morning - Focus on the tv and grab a mint! 2.) After eating - again, grab a mint then clean something up 3.) On the phone - drink water or something icy cold, don't think about it either 4.) Around other smokers - well, my family are the only one's and they have been considerate enough to stay out of my line of vision and smell! 5.) On the computer - instead of my usual sites, I come here! This site really strengthen's my resolve! Sue Never quit quitting! 1 waking in morning. I keep busy drink my coffee slower now. 2. When hubby comes home. Before he gets home I come here and read or post. Then I fix my hot tea 3.Driving for long periods. Get lots of music, water, and gum os snacks 4.when kids are crazy. This one is tough. I try to breath so I do not go crazy at them or with them. remember my reasons for quiting 5. When things are hectic or a lot going on at one time. During this time I used to go out and smoke. This is now when I take a mommy time out. Or I just yell and scream until someone helps me..lol just kinden. Thats what I want to do, I don't though. Hi Gonnadoit Behave !!!! First thing in the morning i used to smoke 5 mins after waking up. Now I leave a bottle of cold water on my night table and drink half of it as soon as I wake up Talking on the phone, I hold the phone with the hand I used to hold the sickarette with After a meal I chew cinnamon gum or get up and do the dishes right away Coffee I love my coffee in the am, as I didn't smoke in the house I now take it to the computer with me and post When I'm around other smokers I ignore the smoking or I get up and go to the washroom or invent a reason to go into another room or outside. Also since the mornings were the hardest for me as soon as I ate breakfast I would walk the dog always bringing a bottle of water with me. #3 is an interesting topic....hmmm... When hubby and I were both wearing patches, afterward we would rub each others patch and, jokingly, say "Was it good for you Baby?" :gasp: :gasp: <<<<< Us gasping for air!

In the beginning: 1-talking on the phone 2-after a meal 3-driving 4-bored 5-after completing a task Now: Now I have emotional triggers. Practicing new coping skills make the triggers go away.
