Cigarettes Not Smoked

Here is what I posted when I read the report: Boy am I relieved that I quit before that second hand smoke report came out. It still made me feel very quilty for putting my kids through all that but at least I can say, "I'm not doing that anymore". It brought up a lot of feelings for me. One of which is extream gratefullness that we all are ok. I am so gratefull and I know that it is by the grace of god that none of us have any horrible consequences and we can quit now and in a few short years, be healthy like we never smoked. I have my teeth problems, but that seems to be about it. I know that is the protection of God. Also, both my parents smoked and I had a brother that died of crib death before I was born. I can't imagine how my mother feels about the report, but we havnt' talked about it. I am having to really avoid spending much time with her because she is still smoking. It's hard for me to be in her house. I'm not sure we would talk about it anyways, avoidance is one of the ways my family deals with things. Maybe even if she heard the reports (i don't know how she could not hear it, it's all over the television) she will pretend she didn't. anyways, I thank God that I am quit, and that my daughter is quit. i thank god that all my kids are ok and I am ok. I ask god to help me and be with me while I am getting used to my smoke free life. Thank you guys too for all your friendship and for reading my ramblings! Love, Mama Whenever I have trouble thinking of something to pray for, I just thank God that we are all ok. Cigarettes Not Smoked

I avoid smokers now at all costs pretty much. I do not want to be around their second hand smoke. Personally I would be more apt to lobby for laws being changed which would ban smoking in any indoor facility than I would to hand reports to anon smokers that I happen to encounter when I am out in public. The reason being because I remember when I was a smoker ... I thought as a drug addict and those reports meant nothing to me. I didn't believe them ... I believed what my drug of choice told me. On the other hand, I would show and discuss the report with a friend that smoked ... because my friend would know that I was talking to them with love and not trying to make them feel bad for their addiction. ~just my 2 cents~ ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,698 Amount Saved: $224 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 18 Mins: 18 Seconds: 6

Well said Bubba, .. makes me feel guilty for inflicting second-hand smoke on my family Mr Ed  My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 144 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,338 Amount Saved: 1080 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 2 Mins: 33 Seconds: 54

Thanks Bubba, This makes you look at smoking AND smokers in a totally different way now. I am NEVER going back there. Imagine the impact! I would feel bad just being outside with one, let alone inside, with my cat exposed! I can't even believe I did this unknowingly for so long. Don't go beating yourself up though, what's important is we know now what the truth is, and that will solidify our quits even more so. The visual of angry villagers with torches also comes to mind! :8o: Eve My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 90 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 725 Amount Saved: $270 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 14 Mins: 56 Seconds: 40

Bubba- I am available to support anyone who makes the decision to quit smoking. And, at the same time, I support all of us having the freedom to make our own decisions and choices. I wouldn't want someone else trying to make my decisions for me. Just because someone makes a different choice than I do, and it may be one that is not healthy, it is their life... Before I quit smoking, I didn't need or want anyone trying to sell me on the idea. ALL of us know how dangerous this addiction is - all of us. Reports about second hand smoke,--- hmmmm, i's say we have more to worry about ie, environmental triggers / Cancer causing environmental pollutants, Radiation from the sun, GE & chemicals / additives in our food, chlorine & flouride in our water the list goes on.... global warming. Remember.. it's not easy to stop smoking, .. & staying quit & you know it !. I've seen 8 - 10 year quit ex-smokers lite up in the blink of a eye cos after all... no matter how long we've kicked the habit... we are all addicted to nicotine. :8o: An obsession with smoking & smokers is not healthy... live a little & enjoy life. We all make our own choices in life & live by them, don't take the fun out of life by taking away our freedom of choice.
