bogbott, You are not alone. I have a 14month old and a 4yr old. My girl can push all of my buttons. This quit I have tryed to stay calm, also I try to do fun things with her. I have been making deals with her. IE: if you are good girl in store mommy might get you something, or Ok today mommy is having a hard time, you play quitely. I will take you some place fun. I hear alot about distraction, well use them for the both of you. And Rewards. There is actully lots of other things I have been doing to. You can im me anytime. I am on here mostly during days. LOL I have 5 kids. Take them out for a party! order pizza, get ice cream, and get some movies. Go to the park and run around in your new lungs. Whatever you do - do not set her up to be a worse child than she is so that you can smoke. Children are just children. Like Mistymoon, I also have 5 kids. And BOY do mine test me!!! After reading your posts, I suggest that you eliminate any physical discipline at present. You are pretty vulnerable and angry right now. You're right-attention is probably the reason she is acting up. I don't know about you, but in the process of quitting I become terribly self absorbed. Another adult that she can spend some time with would probably do you both a world of good (how about those older siblings?) I lost a quit recently during some stressful situations involving my kids, but, you know, it wasn't THEIR fault I lost it. It was THEIR fault for misbehaving, but not for MY lost quit. I have to take responsibility for that. It's always easier to blame someone else, and typically we turn to those closest to us. Nicotine is a drug. The courts often remove children from drug addicts until and while they are cleaning up their act. Withdrawels, physical and psychological, are ugly. We don't act rationally and sometimes say hurtful things. You sound like you need a neutral third party to intervene. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. It is not a sign of weakness--it is a sign of strength. Strength that you know yourself and your limitations. Enough of my soapbox. Prayers coming your way and lots and lots and lots of hugs!!! :)

Hi Jan, I just ran into Orthoboy in here. Perhaps he will see your post and offer up some advice. He did some creative things with his small children to cope with his stress and keep them entertained at the same time. I agree with Rusty too. A 6 year old refusing to use the toilet is a sign that 'something else' is troubling the child. She may not understand it or know how to communicate it, so a counselor could help. Jan, seems like Aimee is always the reason you use when you lose your quit. You are smoke-free one week today. How about celebrating? Take Aimee out to a great place and explain to her what your quit means. Help her understand that you are not going to let her or any other person or circumstance come between you and your quit. Perhaps it's time to get some counseling or help of some kind so that the two of you can deal with each other in a more constructive way, and you can learn how to not let her push your buttons. A six-year-old who refuses to use the toilet needs some help, Jan. In my humble opinion. Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 622 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 17,427 Amount Saved: $2177 Life Gained: Days: 85 Hrs: 14 Mins: 45 Seconds: 45

Jan...when younger kids act in this manner it generally has something to do with getting attention? to a kid even "discipline" attention is attention? I am sure that you are under stress in quitting and your child is picking up on this.....kids are really quite sharp about this sort of thing. In the midst of this stress, she feels the need to assert herself? If I were you, I would do some of the suggestions.....talk to her...explain what you are doing and how it makes you feel....tell her if she helps you, she can share in the rewards of your keeping smoke free?? Discuss in detail what she might do, exactly how it would help you and exactly what the rewards might be?? hang in there....our kids can really step on our last nerve in this quitting business.....just don't let it defeat you.....you CAN manage it.....it WILL pass Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1696 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 67,873 Amount Saved: $9667.2 Life Gained: Days: 221 Hrs: 7 Mins: 53 Seconds: 53
