Mega milestone! Pick up another quit buddy who DOES get it. You're doing GREAT. Celebrate well and in good health. --Ruby

I love the idea of learning to live in a new way. We have learned in emergency management that after a disaster (natural or technical), the first impulse of the victims is to "return to normal." There is no return to normal as we once knew it. I'm discovering the same is true for breaking this addiction: we don't "return" to anything, we create a new normal. With creation of any kind come the pangs of childbirth. God love and keep us all as we create our new normals. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 279 Amount Saved: $27.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 31 Seconds: 19

you are doing great, maggie. It will take time, like everyone said, to not feel cravings so strongly. Deal with them however you need to to keep the quit going. You might consider analyzing your feelings around these cravings to check them for nostalgia. If there is a feeling that you wish you could still be smoking, work on getting that feeling behind you. You are obviously doing great on your quit and really are still pretty early in it. I've quit before and learned that the mind set is everything. It's easier if you know that you aren't going back. No way. As an example, my sister has been quit for a year and I can tell she sort glamorizes what she's "missing". She'll say how great they smell and how much she loved smoking. things like that. I can't imagine she'll stay quit for good. I hope this is somehow helpful. If not, let it go by like a crave. I have not had a cigarette in 33 days..YEAH!!!! yes of course it is all in your head, but the mind is a very powerful thing. Addiction is not just about the physical..I think it is actually more mental. I am happy that I have been smoke free for 33 days.. but think I may always think about wanting a cigarette. I have tried to quit many times..once even for 6 yrs. I need to know that even though it gets easier, there will probably always be times i will want a cigarette. I also dream about smoking and then wake up feeling really guilty,, does that happen to alot of people?

Patty everybody has had the smoking dreams, it's just a dream, and yes you will probably think about smoking for a long time, it's just a thought as long as you don't act on it. Smoking is a decision, you just decide not to smoke one day at a time. It does get easier, believe me it does, it takes patience and courage and you have that, your stats are there to prove it so on with the quit one day at a time. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 138 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,084 Amount Saved: $552 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 7 Mins: 53 Seconds: 42
