Hello, It's easy to gain weight when you quit smoking. It's been 8 days for me now and I'm eating/snacking a whole lot more than I normally do. I'm not going to let the weight gain bring me down though. As far as I can see it, you can only work on one thing at a time and right now not smoking takes priority. So far, I've been jogging. I'll see how it goes and if I gain then I'll start the low carbing too. I know it works, I've done it too in the past. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 74 Amount Saved: $28 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 1 Seconds: 50

I hear you Sillyme. Carbs are a real downfall for a lot of us. And especially with the colder weather coming in they are a real comfort. I think I'm trying not to be too hard on myself right now, but I've done things like not bring chips etc. into the house. If they are there, I'll eat them. I've made a few pots of low fat soups because I find them comforting as well. And in a pinch, cup-a-soup is low in calories and fat. so try not to be too hard on yourself, giving up cigarettes is monumental thing, and you've done it! Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 128 Amount Saved: $36 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 8 Seconds: 55

I know where you're coming from Andrea, its hard to stick with it, but great to see the quick results. I let myself have a treat day every couple of weeks, because boy i love high carbohydrate foods. But unfortunately I also have arthritis and I've noticed that when I don't eat breads and pasta etc that its not as bad. So its off with the quit smoking weight.... Hello all....thought maybe if i posted here that you guys would help me stick to my diet. I've gained about 15 lbs in the last couple months (yeah i know i've only been quit one month but as soon as i started cutting back i started eating non stop...lol). I've done the low carb diet in the past and while not everyone agrees with it, its something that I know works well for me. Gonna try and let you all know how i'm doing since maybe it will help me stick to it :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 905 Amount Saved: $125.44 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 11 Mins: 54 Seconds: 6

i think we all gain weight what I am wondering is does muscle weight more then fat. I have been exercising anywhere between 30 min to 1 hr 6 days a week and watching what i eat and I cant seem to loose weight. When I smoked I did not exercise so I am wondering what is going on and I also gave up pepsi so you would think I would loose so that is why I am thinking the muscle is building up does anyone know? thanks My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 686 Amount Saved: $107.46 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 17 Mins: 55 Seconds: 29

I think I'm going to start the low carb diet, works good for me, and hit the old exercise bike. hey, it beats smoking ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 100 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,115 Amount Saved: $925 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 6 Mins: 37 Seconds: 23

Sillyme, we are in the same boat, I gained 11 lbs since I quit. I've done Atkins in the past, and lost weight quickly, but I don't know if I want to go that route again. I seemed more committed to keeping the low carb lifestyle in the past. I figure I'm back on an exercise plan, I'll give that a try first and see what happens. I'm also gonna try and curb my snacking and stick to healthier things. (Of course I just had pizza for lunch) :) Good luck Andrea My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,972 Amount Saved: $465.5 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 7 Mins: 4 Seconds: 54

That's great, Sillyme. If I haven't lost anything by mid-October, I might got the low carb route, too. I DO feel really good now that I'm exercising, though.
